25/05/05
37422 (WNTS) was recovered from Lichfield by 57302 last night and is now located at Warrington. What next for this errant machine? Back to Toton for more attention, abandon it where it is or send it to the graveyard at Healey Mills. Or maybe, as has been suggested, the people at Margam would like to have a go at getting ‘Canton‘ sorted…
43009 (IWRP) is scheduled out on its first powered test run, light engine with another power car, from St Philips Marsh tomorrow morning. No timings are currently available but it has been indicated that it will be leaving between 09:00 and 09:45.

37422 (WNTS hired to WBAN) failed at Lichfield whilst out on test from Toton to Crewe with 6K50. VT thunderbird 57302 was scrambled from Stafford to rescue it. 37422 is showing ESD (engine shut down) and in lieu of its recent performances this is most likely oil supply, or the lack of it, related.

24/05/05 15:35
37422 (WNTS but now hired to WBAN) is booked out on test this afternoon from Toton to Crewe Basford Hall and back on the 6K50 and 6K51 workings.

They have been joined in the ICCP pool by 43070 and 43193 which have been transferred in from IMLP.

RT Rail shunter notes…
RT Rail have advised that 08873 which has been at LNWR Crewe for the last five years is to move to Manchester to release former Inverness locomotive 08788 which is scheduled to go to Wabtec for an E exam and repaint into a commercial livery before heading off south for a seven year stint in the London area. 08885 is to be fitted with auto coupling equipment and is set to join 08788 in London. 08523 is still proving problematical and requires cylinder liner attention whilst it is advised that the former Reading pilot, 08754, last seen in the North East on the back of a low loader, has been sold on.

20035…
Still in France, 20035 en route back to the UK has been further delayed, it is currently located somewhere near Rouen, by French bureaucracy.

Grids to go…
Three France bound Class 56s have been transferred from Bristol Barton Hill to Wembley this afternoon to await forwarding through the tunnel, WZGF trio 56049 56051 and 56065 making the move being top and tailed by 67017 and 67029. The 67s, which ran light from Old Oak Common to Barton Hill, this morning were to have taken 56071 and 56094 (both WZGF) with them but the 56s were left behind at Old Oak Common to be moved at a later date. There are now four Class 56s at Wembley awaiting export to France, 56049 56051 56058 and 56065.

Anglia 86s…
Although the general consensus is that the two Class 90s hired in from EWS are to bolster the fleet rather than eliminate the use of the Class 86s here’s the current state of play with the three ‘cans’ just in case…

86232 IANA last worked 19/05/05
86234 IANA last worked 12/04/05 (blown transformer)
86235 IANA last worked 20/05/05

18/05/05 08:25

EWS 90s to return to Anglia duties…?
There are indications that 90019 and 90040 (both WNTR) at Crewe EMD, both receiving C exams, are to be reinstated and hired to ONE for Anglia workings. Although the remaining Anglia ‘Cans’ haven't been seeing too much action of late this development may well eliminate the use of Class 86s on Anglia diagrams altogether. As an aside and probably totally unconnected 90010 (IANA) was hauled from Crown Point to Brush Loughborough for repairs via Stratford and the WCML by 66715 yesterday afternoon.

Shunter news…
A rather shabby 08776 (WNTS) latterly languishing at Carlisle Currock has been removed south by road being noted traversing the M6 on the back of a low loader whilst 08798 (WNTR) recently delivered to Carlisle Currock has since been pressed into use in Kingmoor Yard, quite probably as cover for 08866 (WSSC) which has been despatched north for attention.

16/05/05
08798 (WNTR) recently moved up to Daventry from Old Oak Common has been removed from Daventry by road. Its current location is unknown but it was sighted in the Warrington area on the 14th heading north up the M6 whilst 08907 (WNTR) latterly to be found at Temple Mills has replaced 08798 at Daventry.

Disposal…
The derelict hulk that was 47213, stored from Bescot’s WHBF pool in February 1999, is as good as cut at Crewe DMD, RIP.

47574…
The end for 47574 at Hull’s Rotherham is now in sight. Having had a hole cut in its bodyside some weeks ago its demolition proper is underway. When viewed this afternoon only its cabs, frame, engine and generator set remained.

13/05/05

37685 has been buffered up with 37410 and 37517 (all WNTA) at Toton indicating that it too could be making its way to Healey Mills. The removal of the WNTA allocated 37s from Toton does not bode well for their use on Sandite this autumn. The current scenario being that Class 66s and Class 67s will be utilised on the NR water cannon trains with a number of Class 60s being reinstated to cover.
47358 (DHLT) suitably spruced up at Maritime made its way from Southampton to the Mid Hants Railway with 47303 this morning for its guest appearance at this weekend’s bash.
56032 (WZGF) latterly located at Doncaster Belmont has been on the move again having made it through to Dollands Moor via Wembley where it was joined by 58016 (WZFF) for export. 56032 and 58016 were still at Dollands Moor this morning.

60034 (WCAN) caught fire yesterday evening at Wrawby Junction near Barnetby whilst heading the 6D03 steel working. After what turned out to be a pretty bad day for the Class, 60034 on fire and 60041 with a serious engine failure, are sidelined at Immingham awaiting developments.
87035 (SBXL) has made the move by road from Wembley to Caerwent. It left last night being noted traversing the M4 mid evening.

43004 / 43009…
The despatch of 43004 and 43009, the latter of which had been due to go to St Philips Marsh today, has been deferred to a later date.

12/05/05 22:10
37422 (WNTS) at Toton is showing ‘maintenance complete’.

60041 (WCBN) could be in trouble as it expired at Stalybridge, reportedly with a piston through the crankcase, whilst heading today’s 6E06 to Scunthorpe service. The ensemble, over 1000 tons, was rescued and dragged to Healey Mills by 47355.
87015 (SBXL) was delivered to Caerwent yesterday and 87005 (SBXL) should also be there by now.

12/05/05 09:40

87005 (SBXL) has been loaded at Wembley for removal by road to Caerwent.

Gala 37s…
Reports suggest that 37422 which was to go to this weekend’s MHR Gala is not ready at Toton and is to be substituted by 37401 whilst further reports indicate that 37214 at Carnforth which was to attend the NYMR Gala will not now be doing so.

11/05/05 08:20
47515 (WNSO) the elder statesman of the storage lists but the youngest of the Class has been extracted from Crewe South Yard and moved onto Crewe DMD where, presumably, its demise will be effected.
56003 is not now going to the MHR Gala as its road transfer from Ashchurch has been cancelled.
58038 (WZFH) has arrived in Holland and as far as can be ascertained it sailed on the 7th.
86209 (SAXL) is the second Class 86 to Boreham for disposal being delivered there yesterday afternoon by road from store at MoD Shoeburyness. A machine that, although it has a blown transformer, hadn’t seen much action since it was overhauled at Springburn for use with Anglia.
87015 (SBXL) is on its way to Caerwent being transported out from Wembley last night by road.

10/05/05
08776 (WNTS) is on the move from Crewe EMD being noted heading north by road on the M6 this afternoon.

86901 (QACL) usually to be found at Rugby with 86902 has been noted carrying the name ‘Chief Engineer’.

08/05/05

Movements in the pipeline…
Several locomotive movements are pending, most are by road…

Two more Class 86s are to be removed from Shoeburyness, one is set to follow 86238 to Boreham whilst another is to go to Rotherham.
33108 which is being repainted at Derby prior to it returning to private ownership following its cessation of use with Fragonset is due to be collected next week as is 56003 from Ashchurch which is scheduled to be putting in an appearance at the Mid Hants Gala.
Several more Class 56s are being prepared for transfer out of Immingham to Healey Mills and the next batch out should comprise 56025 56027 56033 and 56079. In the longer term the planned partial clearance of stored locomotives from Toton and its associated compound is anticipated to see about 20 locomotives of Classes 37, 47, 56 and 58 being removed from Toton to Healey Mills.
The four Caerwent bound Class 87s currently at Wembley, 87005 87015 87024 and 87035, are now going by road and the first movements west are expected to take place sometime next week.

5814…
Although confirmation is required it is understood that 58038 / 5814 was loaded for shipping to Holland on the 6th and may already have left the UK by now.

HST power car notes…
Recently reinstated 43069 and 43070 were hauled to Derby Etches Park last week for exams. 43069 is to enter traffic with the MML fleet initially as cover for 43064 which is away at DML Devonport for repairs but will remain with MML in the longer term to displace 43193 which is due a major exam from the fleet. 43070 is to be part of the VT summer holiday fleet as are 43087 and 43196 currently in store at Crewe Works. These two are to be moved to Derby shortly.
43159 being attended to at Neville Hill is now set to stay with MML displacing 43157 which is earmarked for use with the VT summer fleet. 43157 is not expected to be returned to MML after use by VT.

07/05/05
08798 (WNTR) latterly in store at Old Oak Common has turned up at Daventry and is in use there. 08699 and 08834 are on site as well but appear to be out of use at the moment.
87005 87015 87024 and 87035 (all SAXL) have been removed from Willesden to Wembley. Assuming they are still Caerwent bound then their transfer to South Wales looks set to be by road rather than rail. Still on Willesden and presumably being prepared for transfer away 87029 87030 and 87031 have been moved inside so the lines adjacent to the depot that have been full of Class 87s of late are now clear.

Disposal…
It has been established that it is recently stored 86238 that has been moved out from MoD Shoeburyness to a scrapyard at Boreham in Essex. By this afternoon though, only one cab on one bogie and very little else remained of 86238 which was stored from the IANA pool in October 2004, RIP.

06/05/05

An as yet unidentified Class 86, one from 86209 86215 86227 86230 86238 or 86242, has been removed by road from MoD Shoeburyness to a private site at Boreham near Chelmsford.
87003 87023 and 87033 (all still SBXL pending reinstatement) ran from Willesden to Oxley on the afternoon of the 4th.

02/05/05
37422 (WNTS) was turned out today with 37427 to work the northern section of the Cumbrian Warrior Railtour north from Bescot. However by the time the tour reached Preston 37422 was ‘dead in tow’ having shut down with a low oil pressure problem somewhere near Warrington. After several unsuccessful attempts at resurrecting 37422 it was removed from the train and dumped in the sidings at the north end of Preston station before 37427 continued north solo with the tour.
56032 (WZGF) has been returned to Toton being moved overnight from Rugby on a wheel skate sandwiched between 66240 and 66168.

01/05/05
