30/11/05
09105 (WSGW) which had been struggling along on one operational traction motor has been moved up from South Wales to Crewe EMD for assessment.

The bin beckons...
EWS have pre-assigned four operational locomotives for store in December, one Class 37 and three Class 60s. All are due to go on the 10th (see below) although as the last day of the Rhymney's is on the 10th it is anticipated that 37425 will last until at least the morning after. 37419 (WKCK) had been expected to be an early casualty due to its accumulated hours however it has recently received a B exam at Margam and dispensation to run beyond the former hours limit of 10,800. Due to be stored on December 10th are...

37425 (WKCK) assigned N ONE at Margam
60024 (WCAN) assigned B ONE at Toton
60027 (WCBN) assigned B ONE at Thornaby
60093 (WCAN) assigned B ONE at Toton

Power Cars to move again...?
No times are currently available but reports suggest that there is a transfer move, being handled by Freightliner, from Reading DMU depot to Landore pencilled in for December 2nd. The consist is most likely to be stored First Group power cars.

29/11/05
08480 (WZTS) at Toton has been repainted in what could be described as reverse EWS livery. Where normally there would be red it is now yellow whilst the bodyside band is in EWS red. It is understood that 08480, which normally lives in the wagon shops adjacent to Toton Yard, is to be the pilot locomotive for the sleeper coach refurbishment program to be carried out at Toton.
08994 (WNTR) has been noted in traffic in the Doncaster area.
31558 (SDXL) at Tyseley is to be moved by road to Hull's Rotherham for disposal shortly whilst Booth's bound 37242 is ready to leave Barrow Hill. It is being traded for 37178 currently at Booth's yard following transfer north from Eastleigh.
43154 sidelined at Derby has been stored SBXL.
60069 (WCAN) damaged slightly in a shunting incident during a recent engineering possession, it was run into during a shunting manoeuvre, has arrived at Toton for assessment.
86232 86234 and 86260 (all SAXL) have been hauled north from Crown Point to Immingham Railfreight Terminal today by 66199. Their removal from Norwich leaves the site without a Class 86 presence for the first time since 1987 and electrification of the lines out of Norwich.

Disposal...
The grounded remains of 86603 stored from Crewe's DFNC pool back in September 1999 have been disposed of at Booth's Rotherham, RIP.

More Meridian...
The next MML HST diagram to go over to a Class 222 becomes a Meridian from the 5th...

27/11/05
31123 going to Booth's for disposal had been delivered by the 25th following its transfer north from Toddington by road.
43086 and 43159 (both SBXL) latterly in store at Neville Hill have been moved to Long Marston.
66215 (WNTS) at Toton has been back to Derby again for weighing. Whilst the locomotive is apparently ready for despatch to France it is understood that some paperwork issues are still outstanding and the most recent estimates as to when it will be going abroad range from any day now to mid December.

WCRC 33s...
Following its failure at Hest Bank on the 24th 33207 didn't go to Crewe as had been anticipated but was returned to Carnforth for attention. It was out again the following day on test between Carnforth and Preston with 57601. 33025 returned to Carnforth on the 25th from Stockport via Crewe where it collected 37197.

Cotswold Rail Choppers...
The mention of 20096 and 20905 being hired to Network Rail via Cotswold Rail has turned out to be a non starter however they have been hired to Cotswold and, having made their way from Crewe to Gloucester, are to be engaged in driver training duties with Cotswold Rail who have a new freight flow coming on stream in a few weeks time.

Clarifications...
Regarding the report that 37074 has been finished off at Booth's this was incorrect as its remains, frame on bogies only, are still with us whilst the semi cut carcass of 37711 is still extant at Kingsbury so this has been re-listed. It has been established however that the demolition of 37384, recently moved to Kingsbury from Brush Loughborough, is well underway.

24/11/05
08775 (WNTR) from store at Doncaster Carr has been moved up to and returned to use at Goole replacing 09106 (WSEM) which has been sent south, most probably to Doncaster Carr, for attention.
31123 stripped for spares at Toddington is understood to have been removed from the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway by road today. It is destined to go to Booth's Rotherham for disposal.
86218 86235 and 86246 (all SAXL) have been dragged from Norwich Crown Point to Immingham for further storage at the Railfreight Terminal, 67023 being provided for today's transfer. 86246 has been de-named as have 86232 and 86234 (both also SAXL) still at Norwich.

Got Ploughs…?
With the forecast arrival of heavy snow across the country there have been developments with several locomotives fitted with snowploughs. 20096 and 20905, have been leased to Network Rail from HNRC via Cotswold Rail and for operational reasons have both been reallocated to the CREL pool. WCRC have returned 33025 and 33207 to traffic. Whilst 33025 is still in DRS colours 33207 has been repainted in WCRC maroon, both are still allocated to the XHSS storage pool. 33025 has made its way to Stockport to cover the Hope Valley but 33207 which is to go to Bristol failed at Hest Bank near Lancaster shortly after leaving Carnforth. 57601 has been despatched to rescue 33207 and (at 20:00) it was planned to take the 33 to Crewe for attention before continuing its journey south. 47854 (MBDL) has been despatched north to Inverness.

23/11/05
08561 sidelined at Temple Mills, 08738 at Carlisle Currock and 08913 at Motherwell have been stored WNXX whilst 09107 from store at Motherwell has been reinstated to WRSC and returned to use at Deanside Transit.
37023 and 37051 at Brush Loughborough have been reallocated from WNSO to XHSS, the DRS storage pool.
60050 has been reinstated to WCAN from store at Toton replacing 60088 sidelined at Toton with engine problems which has been stored WNTS. The reinstatement of 60050 from the WNTR 'strategic reserve' pool leaves just three Class 60s allocated now, 60070 60081 and 60098, none of which are realistically returnable to traffic at short notice.

Disposal…
08880 withdrawn from Tinsley's FSNT pool back in July 1996 has been disposed of at Norton's Liverpool, RIP.

22/11/05
08534 08906 and 47757 (all WNSO) have been transported to Thomson’s Stockton in the last few days. Whilst 08534 and 08906 were noted on the move south from Motherwell by road via the M74 on the 18th 47757 was shipped across from Carlisle Upperby yesterday being observed on a low loader heading south on the A1 near Durham during the evening.
60081 (WNTS) continues to get shunted around at Toton, its back at the front of the shed, however it has been established that repairs are not on the cards and it has been yielding spares for the repair of 60041.

Rhymney 04/12, revised…
A revised diagram for the Rhymney line on December 4th has been loaded in the downloads section. Although the timings remain the same the allocated traction has been amended so that one diagram will be a pair of EWS Class 37s, another will be an EWS Class 37 paired with the Fifty Fund Class 50 whilst the third diagram will be handled by the WCRC Class 33 and Class 47 combination.

21/11/05

Booth’s…
37074, which has lingered as frame and bogies for the last couple of weeks, has been finished off as has 86426 which is no more than a pile of bits now. The demolition of the grounded body shell of 86603 has begun and attention has turned to 56121 which has had its body sides cut away.

Toton update…
GWR green 60081 (WNTR) has been put back outside to the rear of the shed, evidently repairs are not on the cards for this one at the current time, whilst 66215 (WNTS) admitted to the paint shop a couple of days ago is only being buffed up and waxed as opposed to being repainted prior to its despatch to France.

GBRf hire in 73136…
Due to 73209 being sidelined at St Leonard’s for mechanical attention GBRf have hired in privately owned but mainline registered 73136. On the 18th it ran from Stewarts Lane to Hoo Junction and onto hire with GBRf before spending the weekend on engineering duties with 73204.

19/11/05

Toton Tugs (and a Shed)...
GWR green 60081 (WNTR) has been admitted to the main shed for attention, it was until recently dumped to the rear with 60006 (WNTS). Inside the main shed 60041 (WNTS) has been comprehensively stripped down, almost to a bare body-shell whilst 60004 and 60044 (both WNTS) are also inside receiving mechanical attention. France bound 66215 (WNTS) has been admitted into the paint shop.

Rhymney Diagrams 04/12…
It has been advised that the diagrams for the Rhymney line on December 4th made available in the downloads section yesterday are now invalid in that a new set of timings are to be drawn up. The current timings will be left in place pending developments.

18/11/05
37384 has, sometime in the last day or two, been moved across by road from Brush Loughborough to Kingsbury for disposal.

Disposals…
33023 and 37711 have been despatched into history at Kingsbury. 33023 was stored from Stewarts Lane’s EWRB pool in January 1995, almost eleven years ago, whilst 37711 was stored a tad under six years ago being binned from Toton’s WKGN pool in December 1999, RIP.

Rhymney 04/12…
To celebrate / lament the end of LHCS use up the Cardiff Valley to Rhymney a series of special workings have been organised for December 4th. Besides some of the ‘home fleet’ Class 37s being in action visiting traction is set to include a Class 33 and a Class 47 from WCRC Carnforth and a Class 50 from the Fifty Fund. Two timetables in RTF (rich text format) are available in the downloads section under miscellaneous towards the bottom of the page.

17/11/05
08480 (WZTS) usually to be found in or around the wagon repair depot at Toton has been moved onto the main depot for attention.
20189 (MBDL) which was removed from the Weardale Railway sometime in the last few days has turned up at Wabtec Doncaster where it is to undergo a bogie lift for a traction motor change and wheelset attention.
43078 (SBXL) is located at Craigentinny near Edinburgh. It was noted a few days ago stood near the depot minus its power unit, a clue no doubt, as to why it was put to store yesterday.

16/11/05
43078 latterly in use with GNER has been stopped and stored SBXL. Its current location is unknown at the moment.
60015 from store at Toton has been reinstated to WCBN exchanging places with 60041 which is now stored WNTS at Toton.

Disposal…
Not much remained of 86426 at Booth’s yesterday, frame and bogies and very little else. 86426 was put to store during June 2004 after being on long term hire with Freightliner allocated to the DFNC pool, RIP.

08788…
Further to yesterday’s report regarding 08788 and its being destined to go to Scotland it transpires that it was already en route to Inverness by road being noted heading north up the A9 near Perth yesterday evening.

15/11/05

Whilst 08529 latterly in the West Yard sidings adjacent to Doncaster station has been taken back into the Wabtec complex the classified intermediate overhaul on RT Rail’s 08788 (MOLO) is complete and the locomotive is awaiting transfer to Scotland from Wabtec. 08788 is set to replace 08308 (MOLO) at Inverness as the latter is due its 5 year exam which will probably to be undertaken at Doncaster.

14/11/05

37013 has been removed from Brush Loughborough and transported to Kingsbury for disposal. 37384 is expected to follow shortly.
56066 (WNSO) is on the move by road from Wigan CRDC thus bringing the ‘great clearout’ to an end. Removed from the CRDC early evening it has been established that 56066 is to go to the RTC Derby for final component recovery before being despatched to Hull’s Rotherham for scrap.
56128 (WNSO) at Toton and recently inside for a FTR (fitness to run) exam has emerged from the shed but it is not ready for collection as problems have been encountered.

Work in progress…
At Booth’s Rotherham the demolition of 86426 has begun with part of its bodywork being cut away. 47241 is still as was, more or less cabs and a frame on bogies, whilst the frame and bogies of 37074 still remain waiting to be finished off.

87001…
87001 (SBXL) left Wembley this morning slightly later than planned but then had to pay a visit to Willesden further delaying its trip to York. Running as 0Z01, it had originally been scheduled to run as 0Z87, 87001 eventually recommenced its journey north being noted passing through the Finsbury Park area at around 14:30, passing Huntingdon at 15:30 and had reached the Doncaster area by 17:10.

10/11/05
43070 and 43087 (both CRRH) have run from Tyseley to York today for display at this weekend’s event at the NRM. Whilst 43070 has been out-shopped in CR Silver 43087 has been adorned in the Hornby house colours of red with yellow lining and writing. Cotswold Rail’s 47813 has also arrived at York and will be utilised to shunt 87001 into the museum tomorrow after it arrives from Willesden for hand over to the NRM and into preservation. The move of 87001 which is now repainted BR blue and has been reunited with its Royal Scot nameplate on at least one side is being undertaken using Advenza personnel and it is due to leave Wembley at 10:00 running north via the North London lines then the ECML to York.
56066 (WNSO) is being prepared for removal from Wigan CRDC however as no cranes are on site a quite complex jacking operation to get it onto its transport for removal was underway mid afternoon.

87001…
A clarification. Regarding its proposed move to the NRM York with reference to it moving on the 9th (today) this was incorrect as it should have stated the 11th, Friday. (One must remember to consult the calendar more carefully in future…) Anyway reports suggest that it is currently in undercoat at Willesden awaiting a re-application of BR blue.

56066…
Transport has turned up at Wigan (20:45) to extract the last locomotive from the CRDC however there is only a loading ramp on site and a crane is required for 56066 which is without bogies.

08460 (WZTS) has been removed from Warrington to Allerton.
31411 (SDXL) at Barrow Hill has been loaded onto a trailer and awaits removal to Hull’s Rotherham for disposal.

Disposals…
Two to report and both slightly belated. As far as can be ascertained the following were both disposed of during the last few days of October. 20108, stored from Toton’s FEFN pool back in June 1991, has been disposed of at Kingsbury whilst 86249 stored in October 2003 from IWPA, but based at Polmadie for use as a training locomotive, has been disposed of at Caerwent, RIP.

04/11/05
37711 and 37715 (both WNSO) were extracted from Wigan CRDC yesterday evening and along with 47778 (WNSO), an earlier extraction yesterday, have been transported to Kingsbury. These removals from Wigan leave just Fragonset’s wagon bound 56066 on site which, now the cranes have been and gone, appears to have missed the boat.
47150 (DHLT) has been moved across from Basford Hall to Crewe LNWR and is showing ‘special tests’. Is a return on the cards?
47576 (WNSO) and 86603 (DHLT) have arrived at Booth’s Rotherham. Both locomotives, devoid of bogies, have consequently been offloaded directly into the cutting area.
56063 (WNSO) has joined 56131 at Brush Loughborough following transfer by road from Immingham. Further to yesterday’s speculation regarding their future it has been ascertained that these two along with 56044 have been sold on by Booth’s to a third party so if, again as speculated, they end up being / or are now Jarvis machines then evidently a further transfer of ownership has taken place.
56115 (WZGF) was despatched from Wembley to Dollands Moor then through the tunnel to France this morning. 56115 thus becomes the 49th and last locomotive to France for the LGV East contract. 03/11/05
08737 from Allerton which, it transpires, was moved over to Yorkshire about a week ago by road has been reinstated to the WREM pool at Deepcar. It has also been repainted into EWS colours.

43089 (SBXL) has been hauled from Neville Hill to Brush Loughborough this afternoon, 47851 and 57601 providing transport in top and tail mode, whilst at Brush 43196 has been reinstated to the QCAR pool confirming it is an additional power can for the NMT operation.
47575 (now RTLS) was moved from Barrow Hill to Crewe this morning in convoy with 47847 47848 20096 and 20905. The two 47/8s have been fitted with multiple working and this was being tested en route.
56103 (WZGF) and 56113 (still WZTS) were hauled from Wembley Yard to Dollands Moor this morning by 92014 before being despatched through the tunnel to France whilst 56115 (WZGF) has been moved up from Eastleigh to Wembley Yard this afternoon behind 66134 on a late running 6M44 from Eastleigh Yard. It has now been confirmed that 56037 (WZGF) at Old Oak Common has been rejected from the export program so the imminent despatch of 56115 to France will be the last one to go.
56131 (WNSO) from Immingham has been delivered to Brush Loughborough whilst another 56 is expected from Immingham tomorrow. As regards their future this is understood to be subject to contractual bits and pieces so its too early to say whether they will be joining 56045 and 56124 in the overhaul bays but they appear to be in the hands of Jarvis now and its looking favourable.
92005 from store at Crewe EMD has been reinstated to the WTAE pool exchanging places with 92041 which is now stored WNTS at Crewe EMD.

Will the last one out please switch off the lights…
The clearance of Wigan CRDC has been underway again today with two cranes on site this morning to load the bogie-less locomotives onto road transportation for removal. Rotherham bound 47576 (WNSO) and 86603 (DHLT) along with Kingsbury bound 47778 (WNSO) were on their way early this afternoon whilst (also probably Kingsbury bound) 37711 and 37715 (both WNSO) have been loaded for extraction and should be on their way tonight.

02/11/05
08567 (WNYX) and 08954 (WNXX) have been removed from Warrington by road to Allerton. Whilst 08567 was collected yesterday 08954 went this morning and 08460 (WZTS) is expected to follow having also being placed in position for removal.
37178 (WNSO) has completed its move from Eastleigh to Booth’s Rotherham by road.
43089 has been stored SBXL at Neville Hill, quite probably connected with the entry into traffic with MML this morning of 222003, whilst 43123 (FGXP) was returned to Landore from St Philips Marsh about a week ago.
56103 (WZGF) and 56113 (WZTS) both in Fertis livery, have been moved from Old Oak Common to Wembley to await transfer through the tunnel to France. The preparation of 56113 for France, it was removed from the WZGF pool to WZTS in July having being deemed unsuitable, would indicate that it has been deemed suitable for export after all and is quite probably replacing 56037 (WZGF) at Old Oak Common in the program.
56115 (WZGF) at Eastleigh was to have been conveyed to Wembley today but its transfer has been deferred until tomorrow. It is booked for movement from Eastleigh to Wembley via the 12:30 6M44 service to Wembley Yard.

01/11/05
