On arrival at Frethun Yard there is a need to lift each Class 87 as it passes through to measure the wheels before being granted permission to proceed across Europe. This is because is because the Class 87s have narrow wheels when compared to modern UIC standards.

Deposited at Crewe EMD last night following transfer south from Mossend and Motherwell 37407 and 37424 (both WNSO) are to complete their transfer from Crewe to the Churnet Valley Railway by road shortly. The movement of 37407 from Mossend yesterday is the first time it has moved by rail since January 2003 when it was hauled up from Crewe to Wigan CRDC with 47768. When it left the CRDC in October 2005 37407 gravitated north by road. Although originally destined to go to Motherwell 37407 never got any further than Mossend Yard where it has lain until being sold by EWS. Stationary for eight years 37424 is another rusty example having being sidelined at Motherwell since storage back in March 2000.
