Tugs...
Two out, two in. 60019 and 60045 have been reinstated, both to WCAN. 60019 was noted in traffic a couple of days ago. Their places in storage have been taken by 60013 and 60042, both have been stored WNTS.

66502...
Noted in the sidings to the south of LNWR 66502 (DFFT) piped up which may indicate it's ready for transfer north from Crewe to Glasgow.

20142...
Due to leave the Llangollen Railway in December a farewell jolly has been arranged for 20142 on the line for December 7th.

28/11/08

On the road...
Two locomotives noted on the road yesterday, 08514 (WNTS) near Carlisle heading south via the M6 en route to Doncaster Carr from Mossend and 31452 (RVLO) heading north on the M1 on a low loader going to the Weardale Railway from Derby. It has been indicated that 31452 is no longer regarded as part of the operational fleet.

27/11/08

DRS fleet increased...
37601 and 47832, both from XHHP, from Crewe Gresty bridge and Carlisle Kingmoor respectively, have been reinstated to the XHNC pool.

EWS fleet decreased...
Slack in the Class 60 fleet, most were stopped and allocated to the WFMU pool anyway, has been taken up with the transfer to WNTS and store of 60005 60017 60019 60028 60045 60051 60055 60061 60071 60073 60075 60077 60079 and 60095. WFMS allocated 60019 and 60061 hadn't seen action following reinstatement to WFMS last month and earlier this month respectively and these two have been returned to WNTS. This reduction leaves the Class 60 fleet split in two with 50 in traffic and 50 in store.

MTU...
43378 (EFPC) was released from conversion at Brush Traction yesterday running north with 43319 which had been back to Loughborough for rectification work.

Hauled by 66727 this morning from East Ham to Warwickshire 86212 (SAXL) has joined the rest of the Phoenix Rail Class 86s at Long Marston.

37029...
On test 37029 has been observed 'traversing' the branch at Barrow Hill.

DFFT 66s...
A closer look at the three Class 66 Freightliner have reallocated to the DFFT pool, a revision as this pool has been used before, it is now for Freightliner 66s on route learner duties, reveals that 66502 is out of use at Crewe pending a trip to Glasgow for straightening out, 66536 is being utilised for route learning duties but is on worn wheelsets whilst 66587 has, it has been advised, been stopped for the fitment of a small auxiliary engine. 66537 (currently DFGM) could be a candidate for transfer to DFFT as this one is on worn wheelsets.

Whilst heading south with an ECS from Carnforth this afternoon 37712 (MBDL) had to be stopped at Crewe with an internal fire. 47769 was commandeered to forward 5Z47 forward from Crewe whilst 37712 has been sent back to Carnforth for assessment, 47245 being despatched south to collect it.

57314...
The second 57/3 for Arriva treatment looks to be 57314 (ATTB).

Grids & Bone on the move...
56069 56087 and 56106 (all WZGF) have been moved south from Warrington to Crewe, they have joined 56031 56038 56065 and 56078 (all WZGF) on the down holding sidings adjacent to Crewe DMD, meanwhile 56091 (WZGF) and 58035 (WZFF) have been tripped across from Wembley Yard to Eastleigh.

47145...
Being assessed at Gloucester for use with Advenza, the current prognosis is good...

Margam...
It has been advised that EWS are to run down and close Margam Depot in 2009.

The five ex DRS Class 66s recently deposited at Glasgow Works have now been stored SBXL.

Grids on the go...
Three more Class 56s have been moved north from Wembley with 56069 56087 and 56106 (all WZGF) being observed at Warrington.

Bones re-arranged...
The EWS Class 58 fleet has been partially re-organised to cater for the forthcoming hire contract in France which requires 24 locomotives. Added to the current WZFF fleet are 58001 and 58042 from WNXX, 58021 from WZFS, 58005 58006 58013 and 58026 from WZTS along with 58036 from WZFH. Removed from the WZFF allocation is 58016 which is transferred to WZTS as are the remaining stored Class 58s, probably the worst condition examples, which have all been reallocated from WNXX to the Axiom WZTS holding pool.

Barrow Hill 37s...
37029 has been restarted and 37683 (XHHP) was being load bank tested today.

Hanson Traction / Colas 56s...
56311 (now HTLX) is still leading the loaded turns from Immingham as it hasn't been possible to swap the pair around at Immingham, this is now to be carried out at Washwood Heath prior to the resumption of operations next week. The deployment of 56311 and 56312 to this flow is (presently) for four weeks (including last week).

VT 57s...
57315 (ATTB) is in the process of being re-liveried for use with Arriva at Cardiff Canton. It has been advised that two are to be re-livered into Arriva colours and that two more are going to be painted into a neutral colour scheme. Notwithstanding this extra work for the fleet a reduction is in the pipeline for next year and Colas 47s are understood to be coming north to work some of the log train diagrams currently covered by VT 57/3s.

Colas 56s...
For the first 2000 ton loaded run from Immingham to Washwood Heath which took place yesterday, retimed on this occasion to run some two hours later than advertised and further delayed by the failure of 60020 in the Trent area, both 56311 and 56312 were under power. For tomorrow's run it is planned to use 56311 solo with 56312 in the consist whilst the loaded service on the 22nd should see 56312 operating solo with 56311 in tow.

Towed south from the North East today 47145 (XHHP) has been hauled to Gloucester in the consist of today's Stockton to Tidal scrap working with 57005 at the helm as far as York handing over to 47237 for the remainder of the journey.

Freds 406-410...
66406 66407 66408 66409 and 66410 (all XHIM) ran from Carlisle to Glasgow Works today.

Out again...
37601 (XHHP) has been out and about from Gresty Bridge again running from Crewe to Stafford and back today.

Grid 301...
56301 (RCJA) has been released from repairs at Brush Traction, Loughborough.

More 66s for Freightliner...
66406 to 66410 (all XHIM) are being released by DRS to Freightliner. It has been indicated that they are to be moved from Kingmoor to Glasgow Works for attention prior to hand over and it has been mooted that Heavy Haul are to take these five.

47145...
Noted at Darlington this morning 47145 (XHHP) waiting a tow south.

47832...
Always has been a bit of a rogue by all accounts, 47832 has been stored XHHP at Carlisle Kingmoor.

92s...
92004 has been reinstated to WTAE from store at Crewe EMD swapping places with 92037 which has been stored WNTS at Crewe EMD. 92037 was only reinstated last month and only spent a short period allocated to WTAE before being returned to WFMU then WNTS.

DRS Returnee...
Noted out on test from Crewe Gresty Bridge late on the 14th 37601 (XHHP), the last of the three ex EPS Class 37s recently repaired at Brush Traction, looks set to be being readied for a return to service.

HNRC Notes...
47145 (XHHP) has been collected from Carlisle Kingmoor, 47810 being despatched from Barrow Hill following repairs to collect it. As far as can be ascertained 47145 has been taken across to the North East for forwarding to Gloucester in the consist of a Stockton to South Wales scrap train. The preparation for a return to traffic of 37029, also now Gloucester bound for *evaluation* by Advenza, is progressing and repairs have started on 20107 - including attention to its underside damaged several years ago at Flixborough Wharf - with 20119 being utilised as a source of spares.

Tractors to Bo'Ness...
37403 and 37413 (both WNSO) were hauled this morning from Mossend to the Bo'Ness & Kinneil Railway and into preservation.

Grids to Worcester (and Long Marston)...
56311 and 56312 have entered traffic proper running from Peterborough to Worcester then on to Long Marston to collect a rake of wagons for the commencement of next weeks steel movements to / from Immingham.

Colas 56s...
Due to an issue with paperwork 56311 and 56312 didn't get to Worcester today as planned but have left the Nene Valley Railway and are now due to go across to Worcester tomorrow morning, possibly to later visit Long Marston.

West Coast 37...
37676 (MBDL) has re-entered traffic undertaking a test run from Carnforth to Hellifield and back with 47245 47851 and 57601 in tow.

Bo'Ness 37s...
37403 and 37413 (both WNSO) are booked for movement from Mossend to Bo'Ness in the early hours of the 14th. Mossend 05:49, Coatbridge 05:56, Grangemouth 06:27 and Bo'Ness 06:56.

Colas 56s...
56311 and 56312, two Hanson Traction hire fleet Class 56s have been noted at Wansford adorned with Colas 'Orange Hat' decals which is an indication of to whom  they are going on hire with. They are due to leave for Worcester tomorrow morning and it has been indicated that North Lincolnshire will be a good spot to visit from next week if you would like to see Class 56s moving steel again...

EWS Changes...
60082 has been stored WNTS at Toton, it had been stopped and allocated to the WFMU pool, meanwhile 08664 08922 09101 and 09107, all from Doncaster Car, have been reinstated to the WSSN pool.

37403...
As per plan 37403 (WNSO) was taken north from Bescot to Mossend today in the consist of the 6S73 working behind 92019. 60100 was also included in the consist as far as Warrington.

Register...
66431 66432 66433 and 66434, the four new DRS Class 66s moved north last week, have been reallocated from MBDL to the XHHP holding pool whilst the four Freightliner examples on their way up to Crewe from Newport today have been reallocated from MBDL with 66954 66955 and 66956 going to the DFIN pool and 66957 being reallocated to the DFHG pool.
47528, scrapped back in May, has now been de-registered from CRUR whilst 47703 at Leeming Bar and 47714 at Loughborough have been de-registered from CREL. 87010 87022 and 87028, recently despatched abroad have been de-registered from SBXL although 87007 87008 and 87026 which left the UK in June are still on the system allocated to SBXL.

Ben Cruchan...
Bo'Ness bound 37403 (WNSO) has been brought up from Margam to Bescot to await forwarding to Scotland. It is anticipated that, like 37413 recently, it will be conveyed north in the consist of tomorrow's 6S73 from Bescot to Mossend where it will be paired up with 37413 for the final leg to Bo'Ness.

Poland bound 66586 (DHLT) has been despatched abroad being noted in Europe en route a couple of days ago.

97/3s...
97301 97302 97303 and 97304 (all QETS) have been returned to Barrow Hill for storage pending a decision and agreement with regards the method of the proposed fitment of the ERTMS equipment. The project is understood to be running somewhat behind schedule although the rebuilding of the four ex Class 37s into the 97/3s was completed on time.

58001...
Although removal probably isn't imminent 58001 (WNXX) has been readied to leave Barrow Hill. It will probably be heading for Eastleigh and another foreign contract, twenty more Class 58s required for hire abroad has been mooted.

Extracted from Peak Rail today 55016 (MBDL) has been transported up to Barrow Hill for attention. Initially it will be loosing the bogies it currently has beneath it but in the longer term repairs and modernisation is to be undertaken.

47145...
Noted moving about at Kingmoor today 47145 (XHHP) is still to be collected and taken to Gloucester. That is, providing Advenza still have an interest in it...?

MTU...
43319 (IECP) and 43384 (EHPC) have been released from re-engineering at Brush Traction exchanging places at Loughborough with 43108 (IECP) which has been admitted for reconfiguration.

Grids on the move...
56038 and 56078 (both WZGF) were hauled north from Wembley Yard in the consist of last night's 6X77 to Warrington where they joined 56031 and 56065 (both WZGF) moved north the previous day. All four have since been tripped down to Crewe being noted late afternoon on the 'Down Holding Sidings' adjacent to Crewe DMD awaiting movement round to the EMD. The stored Class 56s and Class 58s at Old Oak Common are also to be moved out at some point although whether all of these will be able to go by rail remains to be seen.

Moved as a Class 8 during the night 66502 (DFGM) has been tripped from Garston to Crewe LNWR for inspection.

Wembley clear out...
Four Class 56s have been removed elsewhere from Wembley Yard. 56031 and 56065 (both WZGF) have were taken north to Warrington in the consist of yesterday's 6X77 Mossend service, they are destined to go to Crewe EMD, whilst 56115 and 56117 (both WZGF) have been dragged directly from Wembley to Eastleigh.

HTLX...
Hanson Traction have set up a new pool coded HTLX for Hanson Traction Locomotives. To date 56312, now officially renumbered from 56003, has been allocated.

MV Stellanova...
Docked at Newport is MV Stellanova with 66302 66431 66432 66433 66434 66954 66955 66956 and 66957 (all MBDL) on board. 08770 (WNTS) from Margam is being despatched again, it has been moved out to Margam Yard for road movement to Newport Docks, for shunting duties whilst 37605 and 66428 have been sent south from Crewe to assist and collect the new 66s.

HNRC's latest acquisition has been moved up by road from Loughborough to Barrow Hill.

66586...
Still at Immingham? 66586 has been reallocated to Freightliner's DHLT storage pool.

Recently delivered to Doncaster 08888 (WNTS) has been noted in use in Wood Yard to the rear of Carr Loco depot.

60011 (now WCAK) has re-entered traffic working out to Immingham from Toton today however 60013 (WCAI) was noted behind 66088 near Scunthorpe this afternoon covered in oil.

Tugs...
In recent days 60004 from Toton and 60061 at Eastleigh have been reinstated from WNTS to the WFMS holding pool whilst 60022 has now joined the active fleet having being reallocated from WFMS to the WCBK pool. two losses to the fleet though with the storage of 60047 from traffic and the WCAI pool along with 60083 which had been languishing in the WFMU pool. both have been stored WNTS at Toton.

Tees Yard resident 08776 has been stored WNTS. Officially a non runner in need of an exam for several months it has been seeing regular use. Shunting in Tees Yard is now to be undertaken by a mainline locomotive if and when one is available.

66586...
Via Immingham rather than Hull as had originally been indicated 66586 (DFHG) was hauled from Leeds to Immingham yesterday for export.

Wembley Grids...
The eleven EWS Class 56s stored in Wembley Yard since being returned from France late 2006 / early 2007 - the gaffer probably fed up with seeing them there every day - are to be moved.

DRS 66s...
66431 66432 66433 66434, the four new Class 66s en route to the UK for DRS, have been registered, all four have been allocated to the MBDL pool.

Trading...
The shell of 31107 (QETS) currently residing at Derby has been sold for scrap to Hull's, Rotherham whilst HNRC are (as ever) pleased to announce that they have acquired Brush Traction resident 37029 from DRS. 37029 is to be moved to Barrow Hill for assessment and repairs.
