Although only introduced to traffic during the early to mid 1960s the whole Class was eliminated from service between late 1967 and early 1969. D9522 and D9531 were the first to be withdrawn in December 1967 whilst April 1969 saw the last ten being withdrawn with D9500 D9502 D9514 D9518 D9521 D9524 D9527 D9536 D9538 and D9555 being removed from service.

Many Class 14s passed on into industrial use following withdrawal and some have been sold off abroad. Nineteen members of the Class have survived into preservation whilst those broken up have been dealt with at many different establishments over the years.

The last Class 14s disposed of were D9515 and D9548 during 2002 after a period in use in Spain.
