CF Booth Rotherham…
Due to the overwhelming number of people visiting their site of late, both during the working week and at the weekend, Booth’s wish to announce that the following policy comes info force with immediate effect.

- - - - -

C F Booth Limited wishes to announce with immediate effect the following conditions for the visits of railway enthusiasts to its Rotherham site:

1. No visits will be permitted during working hours from Monday to Friday inclusive.
2. No visits will be permitted if shunting movements are taking place on site.
3. Any visitors permitted access to the site must provide their own personal protective equipment in the form of a hard hat and high visibility jacket. This equipment must be worn throughout the duration of the visit. Personal protective equipment will not be provided by C F Booth Limited. Sensible, sturdy footwear should also be worn. Access will not be permitted to those persons wearing training shoes or similar footwear.
4. All visitors upon arrival will be required to report to James Hawley or Peter Presswood. If permitted access to the site, each visitor will be required to sign the Visitors Book recording their name, address and time of arrival. Time of departure must also be recorded so that the number of visitors on site at any one time can be monitored.
5. No visitor should at any time climb on to any locomotive, coach, wagon or other items or structures on site. If found doing so, the visitor concerned will be asked to leave the site immediately and will not be permitted to visit the site again.
6. No visitor should at any time remove items from site.
7. If any photographs taken on site are intended for publication whether in a magazine or on the internet, a copy of each photograph should be submitted to Ken Booth Junior and his permission sought prior to publication. If unauthorised photographs are published, C F Booth Limited reserves the right to suspend visits forthwith.
8. C F Booth Limited reserves the right to charge visitors a fee for access to the site.

C F Booth Limited has always had an excellent relationship with railway enthusiasts and values that relationship. However, the recent interest in its operations has been overwhelming and has started to affect the day to day running of its business. As a result, it has been decided that the visits of railway enthusiasts to its site must be managed to ensure the safety of visitors and its employees. C F Booth Limited currently has no intention of stopping all visits. However, it reserves the right to suspend visits in the event that any visitor is found to have abused the privilege afforded by the company of visiting its site.

- - - - -

Understandably visits to their site need to be regulated and these regulations will have to be adhered to or we run the risk of having access to what is practically the only railway scrapyard that allows visits stopped for good.

86253 (SAXL) has, following its visit to Brush Loughborough, turned up at Barrow Hill and has been admitted to the DPS shed. Early indications are that 86253 is earmarked for conversion to a mobile load bank or something along those lines.

Booth Roe Rotherham…
31201 has had its bodysides removed for access to its internals and its disposal could be finished by the end of the week. As previously reported 37225 is next in line for processing but long term resident 47291 has been dug out and placed behind 37225 to await its turn for disposal.
It has been noted that several of the Class 73s recently delivered to Rotherham have had their doors secured which may indicate that a new lease of life is in the offing.

Class 37s into preservation…
HNRC have advised that as firm offers have been received for the purchase of 37214 and 37242 currently residing at Barrow Hill they can now be regarded as preserved / privately owned. Meanwhile three Class 90s, 90026 90030 and 90034, have been in action on the new North Berwick loco hauled passenger service that commenced today. Fragonset convoy…
Last nights transfer of 56125 86229 and 86233 from Immingham to Derby and Oxley was not completed. The hauling loco 47712 failed en route so 47703, which was low on fuel, was started and propelled the convoy a short distance to Clay Cross before it too expired. 33202 was then despatched from Derby to collect the ensemble which has been stabled at Fragonset for the weekend. It is anticipated that the 86s will complete their transfer to Oxley in a day or two.

The route for the convoy, running as 5Z86 and noted passing through Scunthorpe at 19:23, is Immingham - Scunthorpe - Doncaster - Chesterfield - Derby - Burton - Tamworth - Walsall - Oxley.

73108 (WNZX) has arrived from Old Oak Common, this was the last Class 73 there. It was awaiting unloading with 56130 ex Toton this morning. The arrival of 73110 at Booth’s is confirmed whilst 56075 was loaded and removed from Toton this afternoon by road to Rotherham.

Disposal…
The cutting of 47513 at Booth Roe Rotherham has been completed and 31273 has been moved into position for processing. 47513 was stored from Crewe’s PXLD pool in March 1997, RIP.

12/05/04 22:15
58015 (WNXX) 58017 (WFGF) and 58034 (WNXX) are still located at Didcot awaiting forwarding to Eastleigh.

Booth Roe Rotherham…
It has been established that 73133 was the Class 73 moved up by road to Rotherham prior to 73131 being delivered yesterday. 73110 should, subject to confirmation, be there as well by now. This leaves just 73108 for collection from Old Oak Common. The first of the three Class 56s from Toton has also been transported to Rotherham by road, 56130 being noted on the M1 late this afternoon heading north. 56050 and 56075 to follow.

Sales…
As ever, the following is to a degree unconfirmed. The recent sales by EWS were from tender lists 56 and 58 combined, a total of 29 locomotives. Three, 08601 08817 at Wigan CRDC and 31465 at Old Oak Common are known about leaving 26 to be accounted for. Obviously these Class 56s and Class 73s currently being moved from Toton and Old Oak Common respectively to Booth Roe Rotherham account for some. As it has been indicated that the Class 73s at Hither Green are also to be moved to Rotherham in the next week or so it is therefore safe to assume that Booth’s have purchased these as well. This leaves the locomotives at Wigan CRDC, for which there is a site access problem to overcome, along with the Class 86s at Crewe and Thornaby unaccounted for. A report elsewhere suggests, conveniently when putting two and two together, that Booth Roe are set to receive 26 locomotives for disposal so subject to any further developments the following have been sold to…

Booth Roe Rotherham: 37170 37686 47328 47566 47576 56029 56050 56075 56130 73101 73106 73108 73110 73128 73129 73131 73133 73136 86210 86243 86254 86261 86416 86417 86424 and 86425
HNRC: 08601 08817

Doomed Class 73s...
73131 (WNZX) has been delivered to Booth Roe Rotherham whilst 73110 (WNZX) is on its way from Old Oak Common by road having being noted on the M1 this morning. It is understood that another Class 73, either 73108 or 73133, has already been moved north from Old Oak Common to Rotherham.

Class 92 reduction…
EWS have reduced the Class 92 fleet by four, 92001 92007 92025 and 92035, all being transferred to WNTR yesterday. 92007 and 92035 were already sidelined at Crewe EMD whilst 92001 is currently at Dollands Moor assigned for movement north to Crewe. 92025 is however, still in traffic and was working off Trafford park this afternoon.

67001…
Just a thought but seeing as nothing is safe these days maybe 67001 which has been languishing out of use at Cardiff Canton for almost a year now should be taken out of the WAAK pool.

WCRC 37s…
It has been confirmed that all four IRE Class 37s, 37197 37235 37261 and 37423, have been sold to WCRC Carnforth.

11/05/04
20094 has been removed from the stored lists as it is now regarded as preserved, well privately owned anyway, following its transfer to the Churnet Valley Railway.
58015 (WNXX) 58017 (WFGF) and 58034 (WNXX) have been removed from Bescot to Didcot. They were being prepared, late afternoon, for forwarding to Eastleigh.
73131 (WNZX) is on the move from Old Oak Common by road having being noted heading north on the M1 this afternoon. This locomotive is recently sold by EWS and it’ll be of interest to see where it ends up. Either Fragonset at Derby or Booth Roe, Rotherham are candidates.
73205 (GBED) has been released from Fragonset Derby making its way south to Tonbridge today.
90033 (WNTR) is back into store at Crewe EMD and its hire to WEFE has been cancelled.

10/05/04 21:30

58015 (WNXX) 58017 (WFGF) and 58034 (WNXX) didn’t make the move to Eastleigh yesterday, as had originally been anticipated, but transfer has been arranged for the early hours of tomorrow morning. Due off Bescot at 04:25 as 0Z25 the three ‘bones’ are to be moved initially to Didcot for forwarding to Eastleigh.
87027 (IWCA) has been taken off lease at Willesden.

Toton…
58014 and 58046 have been returned to the main part of the Training Compound, locally referred to as the ‘playpen’, being replaced on the pad adjacent to the paintshop by 56050 56075 and 56130. These three Class 56s are understood to have been recently sold for disposal so should be on their way to Booth Roe Rotherham in due course.

Immingham…
86212 and 86233, two of the four awaiting extraction for Fragonset, have been noted outside at Immingham Railfreight Terminal recently. It has been indicated that a convoy is due to run tomorrow evening off Immingham to Oxley with the 86s. Over at the EWS depot Fragonset’s grids, 56022 and 56125, have been through piped so their movement away from Immingham looks to be on the cards.

58015 (WNXX) 58017 (WFGF) and 58034 (WNXX) currently at Bescot en route to Eastleigh from Doncaster should, if all goes to plan, be continuing their journey south today. It has been indicated that six Class 58s are to set sail from Newport on the 18th.
