31/10/06
20066 / 82 (HNRL) was despatched from Barrow Hill this
afternoon to Corus at Scunthorpe where it is to enter traffic alongside 20056 /
81 (HNRL).
56032 56074 and 56096 (all WZGF) were tripped round from Wembley Yard to Old Oak
Common today behind 67005 meanwhile 58007 58011 and 58050 (all WZFF) remain in
Wembley Yard awaiting forwarding, possibly to Eastleigh.
56061 (SDXL) has completed its transfer by road from Barrow
Hill to Thomson's at Stockton arriving at lunchtime today.
60068 (WNTS) ran from Toton to Immingham early yesterday morning where it is to
undergo wheelset repairs.
66414 66417 and 66418 (all XHIM) are either now available for traffic or have
entered traffic alongside 66415 and 66416. 66419 and 66420 are still 'on test'.
86424 (SDXL) latterly located at Allely's yard in Warwickshire has been
deposited at LNWR Crewe.
Catching up...
A couple of items overlooked / not previously mentioned;
43130 and 43163 (both IWRP) were delivered to Loughborough on the 25th for
re-engineering at Brush whilst 43154 (IWRP) was extracted arriving at Landore on
the 26th where it is being prepared for a return to service.
92028 (WNWX) was returned to Crewe EMD from Wembley Yard on the 24th.
30/10/06
08939 (WRWR) currently at Margam is being wired up for blue
star multiple working, the second shunting locomotive to be so equipped.
56032 (WZGF) is back from France having being deposited at Wembley Yard where it
has been joined by 56096 (WZGF) and 58007 (WZFF) which have been brought up from
Dollands Moor.
56061 (SDXL) has been removed by road from Barrow Hill today and is understood
to be going direct to Thomson's Stockton.
60009 and 60093, both from store at Toton, have been reinstated to WCBN and WCAN
respectively.
66042, again, and 66045 have been reallocated to the WBEN Euroshed pool. There
are now eleven Class 66s allocated, three of which are currently abroad.
66415 (XHIM) has entered traffic and 66416 (XHIM) has been out on a rescue
mission from Kingmoor. 66418 (also XHIM) is
showing 'normal' status so shouldn't be too far away from making its debut for DRS.
29/10/06
86901 and 86902 (both QACL) are currently at Barrow Hill being readied for this winters ECML activities. Space in the DPS workshops has been secured where the Network Rail Cans are receiving exams and miscellaneous repairs and are having OTMR equipment installed.
Disposals...
Further to the report yesterday cataloguing the demise of 31407 at Hulls, this
is now confirmed, also disposed of at Hulls Rotherham is 31412 leaving just
31426 and the three Class 47s on site, 47345, 47704 and yellow peril 47803. It
has been noted by some that 47345 is numbered 47845, some wag evidently messing
about turning the 3 into an 8 at some point, but this certainly isn't 47845 as
this machine was converted into 57301 some time ago. 31412 was stored from
Bescot's LWNW pool back in March 1998, RIP.
Up at Thomson's Stockton the shell of 47326 is no longer in existence, being
broken up during the last few days. 47326 was stored from Bescot's WHBF pool in
January 1999, RIP.
28/10/06
47810 sidelined at Norwich Crown Point and 47840 still
languishing at Brush Loughborough have been transferred to Porterbrook's SBXL
storage pool. Both had been allocated to the CRRH pool but in
reality only 47810 had seen use with Cotswold Rail.
56096 (WZGF) and 58007 (WZFF) have returned from France joining the others at
Dollands Moor yesterday.
66039 (WBAN) is back in traffic following its jaunt on the GCR working out from
Toton to Immingham last night.
Disposal...
As far as can be ascertained 31407, stored from Bescot's LWNW pool back in March
1998, has bee broken up at Hull's Rotherham, RIP.
47848 and other notes...
Further to yesterday's report about 47848 and its decals it transpires that
the 'leaping cat' embellishments haven't been removed as they hadn't been fitted
in the first place and it turns out that this is not such a new development as
47848 has had the DRS decals in place since early October. Meanwhile it has been confirmed that the conjecture a few
days ago about 47812 47839 and 47847 possibly no longer being required by DRS,
based on several reports circulated when they ran south in convoy on the 20th,
was nothing more than conjecture and that these and the other Riviera
locomotives involved remain on hire or available for hire as required.
27/10/06
43158 and 43198 (both IWRP) have been returned to use in
the last couple of days or so.
47812 (XHNC) and 47815 (RTLO) are back on hire to DRS powering last night's
northbound 4S59 service whilst 47848 (XHNC) has lost its cast Riviera leaping
cat embellishments in favour of DRS stickers which applied to the opposite cab
end.
56074 (WZGF) and 58011 (WZFF) have made their move from Dollands Moor to Wembley
Yard but were moved north today rather than yesterday evening as had been
anticipated.
66039 (WBAN) was noted undergoing high speed brake tests at Quorn & Woodhouse on
the Great Central Railway yesterday.
26/10/06
31460 and 47229 (both SDXL) have been transferred
by rail from Barrow Hill to Derby, possibly for component recovery before
transfer to Stockton, in convoy with 31452 47703 and 47709 and some coaches.
37410 (WKCK) is set to make its debut on the Rhymney's having being booked to
work this afternoon's 2R20 17:01 from Cardiff.
43121 and 43157 (both SBXL) on transfer to Wabtec along
with former WCML DVT coaches 82106 and 82109 have been hauled from Gloucester to
Doncaster by 47828.
56074 (WZGF) and 58011 (WZFF) have been readied for movement at Dollands Moor
and may be in the consist of the 18:53 6B54 service to Wembley.
58050 (WZFF) is back from France, returning early this morning. As far as can be
ascertained 58050 has been dropped off at Wembley Yard.
66039 (WBAN) left Toton on a low loader late morning for further brake tests on
the GCR it is understood.
86248 (SAXL) has been taken to Long Marston. Since yesterday's reported
sightings of it en route south from Glasgow 86248 was later observed on the M40
near Warwick then on the A46 near Stratford on Avon heading in the direction of
Long Marston.
25/10/06
37410 despatched to South Wales a couple of days ago is now
reinstated to the WKCK pool from WNTA swapping places with 37425 which is now
stored WNTR at Margam.
43121 and 43157 (both SBXL) at Gloucester awaiting transfer to Wabtec at
Doncaster are not, it transpires, being prepared for use with Grand Central as
had been speculated.
47298 sidelined at Crewe LNWR has been stored XHSS meanwhile it is advised that
47812 47839 and 47847 (all XHNC) are still available for use by DRS if required.
47345 has completed its transfer by road to Hull's Rotherham. Evidently having
stopped off somewhere overnight it was unloaded this afternoon.
56074 (WZGF) is back from France joining the other Class 56s and Class 58s
languishing at Dollands Moor awaiting transfer inland.
60030 sidelined at Toton has been stored WNTR being replaced in the active fleet
by 60091 which is reinstated to WCBN. 60091 has returned to use.
66110 (WBBM) is back from it's jolly being returned to Toton early evening on
the back of a low loader. It was noted negotiating the drive to the depot from
Sandiacre shortly after 8PM.
73136 privately owned but mainline registered and which sees occasional use with
GBRf has been reallocated from MBEL to a new pool coded CSPC, Class 73
Preservation Company.
86248 (SAXL) has been brought south from Glasgow Works by road but dosen't
appear to be Coalville bound as initially anticipated. Having being sighted
heading south on the M6 near Crewe late this morning it was later noted heading
south on the M42 near Birmingham which may indicate that 86248 is Long Marston
bound.
24/10/06
08738 (WNXX) at Margam is in the process of being wired up
for multiple working with what appear to be standard blue star control cables
being grafted on.
31206 has been extracted by road from Booth's Rotherham and transferred to
Northamptonshire and preservation. It is to be unloaded at the Rushden, Higham
and Wellingborough Railway in the morning.
43120 (IECP) with a barrier coach in tow ran from Neville Hill to Brush
Loughborough yesterday and has been admitted for the MTU re-engineering program.
This is the first Angel leased / GNER power car to enter Brush for conversion.
With the news that GNER are to be renumbering their re-engineered power cars by
adding 200 to the current number 43120 should in time become 43320 whilst 43090
and 43100 currently in works for re-engineering should become 43290 and 43300
respectively.
47345 has been removed from Brush Loughborough by road and should either be
somewhere on route to or by now delivered to Hull's at Rotherham.
47803 (SDXL) from Allely's yard in Warwickshire has been transported to Hull's
at Rotherham for disposal thus ending the speculation that it may have been
secured for sale elsewhere. It was unloaded this morning.
47815 (RTLO) hauled 47298 47812 47839 and 47847 (all XHNR) south in convoy from
Carlisle Kingmoor to Crewe on the 20th. Whilst 47298 is defective and remains at
LNWR awaiting developments the general consensus is that 47812 47839 and 47847
are being or are to be taken off hire to DRS.
66110 (WBBM) is the latest Class 66 on a low loader in Nottinghamshire being
observed leaving Toton on the back of a Heanor rig late this morning. Although
it is unclear where 66110 has been transported to, in light of recent
activities, a spin on the GCR is quite possible.
HNRC notes...
20901 (HNRL) currently in use at Flixborough is due to arrive at Barrow Hill at
the end of the week where it will be fitted with TPWS and OTMR equipment. A
repaint into two tone grey, in the same style as 20096 and 20905, is in the
offing. Also in line for TPWS and OTMR is 20906 (HNRL), currently languishing at
Crewe LNWR, and estimates have been sought with regards to undertaking the work
required to return 20906 to use, at LNWR.
20066 (HNRL) at Barrow Hill is almost ready for despatch to Corus at Scunthorpe
whilst 08527 (KCSI) recently moved up to Barrow Hill from Ilford has, following
assessment a return to running order, been purchased by HNRC from Staffordshire
Locomotives.
Although 20096 (ADFL) and 20905 (XHNR) have been readied for use with DRS only
the latter was collected today with 37038 hauling 20905 south from Barrow Hill
to join the Stowmarket contingent.
23/10/06
20096 (ADFL) and 20905 (XHNR) have been prepared to leave
Barrow Hill entering traffic with DRS for RHTT work if required and it is
anticipated that they are to join the DRS Class 20s out-stationed at Stowmarket.
31460 47229 and 56061 (all SDXL) are being prepared to leave Barrow Hill and
Thomson's at Stockton appears to be their destination with movement by rail for
31460 and 47229 being mooted.
37410 (WNTA) has entered traffic working this morning's 6C01 Newport (ADJ) to
Bristol East and return working meanwhile 37425 (WKCK) remains sidelined at
Margam awaiting transfer to store.
43121 and 43157 (both SBXL) are on the move from Long Marston having being
extracted along with two ex WCML DVT trailers to Gloucester behind 47714 this
afternoon. Ultimately 43121 and 43157 are Wabtec bound to be returned to
operational use, presumably for Grand Central, as part of their Sunderland to
London venture.
43130 and 43163 (both IWRP) are looking likely to be the next two power cars
heading to Brush for re-engineering whilst 43154 (IWRP) looks set to be the next
one out from Loughborough.
56060 and 56090 (both WZGF) are the latest returnees from France joining
56051 56065 56095 56117 58004 and 58011 at
Dollands Moor whilst 56058 56081 and 56113 (all WZGF) were dragged round from
Wembley Yard to Old Oak Common today by 67023.
60068 (WNTS) has been out from Toton, probably on test, being noted passing
through Attenborough this afternoon light engine.
Meridians reforming...
Midland Mainline are reorganising the Meridian fleet and the nine car units are
each loosing one coach, the 2nd class vehicle from immediately behind the
driving car numbered in the series 60531 to 60537 inclusive, which is being
re-deployed to make some of the four car units into five car sets.
222001 is to donate 60531 to 222011
222002 is to donate 60532 to 222012
222003 is to donate 60533 to 222013
222004 which is now an eight car set has donated 60534 to 222014 and this set is
in traffic as a five car unit
222005 is to donate 60535 to 222015
222006 is to donate 60536 to 222016
222007 is to donate 60537 to 222017
22/10/06
47326 awaiting the torch at Thomson's has been positioned into the cutting area
at Stockton for disposal.
86248 (SAXL) is to be removed from Glasgow works by road shortly. It is
anticipated that it is set to follow 86228 (SAXL) which was recently transported
to Coalville.
Barrow Hill repaints...
31459 (SDPP) undergoing attention at Barrow Hill has been repainted into the FM
Rail 'more black' scheme as sported by 47832. 20066 (HNRL) is part way
through being painted in Corus green whilst 37667 (HNRS) is in blue undercoat
ready for its application of DRS Blue.
Eurosheds and the brake force
issue...
Further to the comments here a few days ago it transpires that, with regards the
braking capabilities of the UK spec Class 66, there are indeed two sides to some
stories. It has been pointed out that while Class 66s have plenty of brake power
when bolted to a rake of wagons they are not so strong in the stopping
department when running solo and don't meet the French criteria which states
that the Class 66, being a 126 ton locomotive, must have 78 tonnes of brake
force when running light engine up to the maximum permitted speed for a light
engine movement in France which is 100kmph. The UK spec Class 66 is 10 tonnes
short at the moment only managing 68 tonnes of brake force hence the recent
trails with 66032 and 66037. To allow EWS to start operations in France 66022
has been granted a temporary short term licence to operate as is.
21/10/06
37410 (WNTA hired to WKCK) was hauled to South Wales as
planned last night in the consist of 6V49 behind 60062.
66032 (WBEN) and 66037 (WBAN) have returned from tests on the Great Central Railway.
Whist 66037 has re-entered traffic, it was on a Clay Cross engineers job this
afternoon, 66032 has spent today on the low loader it was returned to Toton on
this morning.
20/10/06
37410 (WNTA) has been returned to service from store at
Thornaby, hired to WKCK, and is booked to make its way to South Wales via
tonight's 6V49 22:04 Tees to Newport Alexandra Dock Junction service. 37425
(WKCK) assigned for N ONE over the weekend, worked to Margam this afternoon with
the 6G19 from Newport and was booked 'non runner' on arrival at Margam
effectively taking it out of service today.
37688 (XHSS) undergoing overhaul at Brush Loughborough is now in full DRS
livery.
47306 (WMOC) at St Blazey is being prepared for transfer away by rail. Providing
all is well 'The Sapper' should be on the move early next week.
66032 (WBEN) latterly noted at Derby RTC for tests has since joined 66037 (WBAN)
on the Great Central Railway.
Temple Mills closed...?
It only feels like two minutes ago that Temple Mills, the replacement for
Stratford, was opened but when viewed earlier today the place had the air of
closure about it with only 08646 (WNXX) 08872 (WZTS) and 37694 (WNTR) visible outside the depot building,
no operational locomotives on site.
19/10/06
43122 43126 and 43194 (all IWRP) have been hauled from
Landore to Loughborough for re-engineering at Brush exchanging places with 43133
(IWRP) which is released following MTU conversion. 47714 was provided for
traction. The arrival of 43122 and 43194 at Brush completes phase one, so to
speak, as these are the final two power cars owned outright by First Group to
enter the re-engineering program at Loughborough.
60074 (WNTR) has completed its move from Thornaby to Toton via a stop over at
Aldwarke.
18/10/06
37510 (XHNR) has returned to traffic working today's 6E44
service with 37261.
43122 and 43126 (both IWRP) were hauled from Laira to Landore by 47810 this
afternoon. 43122 is en route to Loughborough.
60074 (WNTR) latterly in store at Thornaby has been brought south in the consist
of today's 6G60 Tees to Aldwarke service behind 60003. 60074 will probably
be Toton bound.
60093 (WNTR) has been out on test from Toton running to Crewe and back.
66010 (WBEN) is now back in France whilst fellow Euroshed 66032 (WBEN) is
undergoing tests at Derby RTC.
66408 (XHIM) has brought 66414 66417 66418 and 66419 (all XHSS) north from
Newport to Carlisle today, the convoy being noted in the Ashchurch area mid
afternoon.
17/10/06
37410 (WNTA) currently languishing at Thornaby may, it has
been indicated, be returned to use as the replacement for 37425 instead of 37422
(WNTR) being repaired at Eastleigh. 37422 will probably be delayed as it has
been selected to be equipped with GSM-R signalling equipment as part of its
return to use.
37680 (HNRS) at LaFarge Hope has, HNRC are pleased to announce, been coaxed back
into life with another first attempt start up being achieved.
66010 (WBEN) has left Toton again for Europe being transferred to Acton behind
66088 for forwarding to and through the Channel Tunnel.
66037 (WBAN) noted on a low loader at Toton yesterday evening was observed near
Quorn this morning causing traffic chaos as its transport appeared to be in some
difficulty. It is understood that 66037 was en route to the Great Central
Railway for testing purposes as it has been indicated that French type brake
blocks are being trialled on this locomotive. Quite what is wrong with UK spec
brake blocks, or a multitude of other minor importance's for that matter, only
the French authorities who, to the casual observer may appear to be
orchestrating a campaign of delays and bureaucratic spoiling tactics to delay EWS
and the deployment of their Eurosheds, have the answer.
66408 (XHIM) took 66415 66416 and 66420 (all XHSS) north to Carlisle overnight last
night returning to Newport this afternoon for 66414 66417 66418 and 66419.
Hybrid HST...
Hitachi, in association with Porterbrook and Brush Traction, have announced
plans to develop a hybrid battery assisted diesel electric HST power car
utilising one of the power cars and a trailer vehicle from the NMT fleet.
Although no details are available as to which power car is to be modified there
is a general consensus that either or both 43089 and or 43160, reinstated to the
QCAR pool back in August but still domiciled at Loughborough, is / are involved.
The press release can be downloaded
here.
16/10/06
37425 (WKCK) now assigned for N ONE at Margam on the 22nd
has been granted a further week to run whilst, rather coincidently, 37422 (WNTR)
being prepared for a return to service at Eastleigh is currently expected ok on
the 22nd.
56051 (WZGF) and 58011 (WZFF) have also returned from France, on the 13th and
11th respectively, having joined the others at Dollands Moor awaiting
forwarding.
66037 (WBAN) has been observed on a low loader at Toton.
SDAC...
FM Rail have created a new pool coded SDAC for their electric locomotives.
Reallocated to SDAC from SAXL are 86223 and 86233 at Oxley, this was due out on
test today but its outing appears to have been deferred. The third Class 86
transferred to SDAC is Anglia stalwart 86235 currently in store at Immingham
Railfreight Terminal.
New Sheds...
A day later than initially anticipated, the boat with 66414 to 66420 (all XHSS)
on board docked at Newport today and 66414 66415 66416 66418 and 66420 have been
unloaded.
15/10/06
56058 and 56113 (both WZGF) are two more returnees from France being noted early evening en route to Wembley through Tonbridge behind 92005.
14/10/06
08909 (WREM) which has been away from Ketton for a few days
for repairs has been returned displacing 08428 (WSEM) which had been on site as
cover, back north by road, to Doncaster or possibly back to Worksop from where
it originated from initially.
56065 56095 and 56117 (all WZGF) have been returned to the UK sometime in the
past few days being noted at Dollands Moor on the 9th with 58004, itself still
in situ after being returned mid September.
90019 has been reinstated to the WEFE pool but it swaps places with 90017 which
has been stored WNTR at Crewe EMD. 90019 was with 90027 on this morning's 4A07
Trafford Park to Wembley Intermodal service.
New shed alert...
Reports indicate that the boat with the next batch of Class 66s for DRS (66414
to 66420) is due at Newport tomorrow.
13/10/06
20107, for so long a bogie-less static feature at
Flixborough Wharf, has been despatched north by road destined to go to the
Weardale Railway and preservation. 20107, now on bogies, was noted at Scotch
Corner yesterday evening en route to Wolsingham.
86233 (SAXL) has been released from Derby being hauled this morning from the RTC
to Oxley by 47703.
90024 (WEFE) despatched south to London on the 11th, via the 6L48 from Garston
again, headed last night's 1S25 northbound sleeper service from Euston through
to Scotland.
11/10/06
31206 currently languishing at Booth's Rotherham has been secured for preservation.
87002 (IWCA) again worked the 5Z87 and 5Z88 test trains this morning followed by
being rostered for the early evening 1G21 and 1B05 London to Birmingham and
return services.
90019 (WNTR) took the late running 1M11 sleeper working south during the night
whilst
90024 (WEFE) is, as far as is known, still at Crewe on stand by coupled to the
Birmingham / Manchester relief set.
ELRD Convoy...
40145 and 55022 (both ELRD) are due to run from Old Oak Common to Castleton for
the East Lancashire Railway on the 13th (Friday). Running as 0Z40; Old Oak
Common 09:55, Acton Mainline 10:29, Watford Junction 11:00, Northampton 12:04,
Rugby 12:36, Stafford 13:56, Crewe 14:29 - 14:38, Winsford Loop 15:00 - 15:21,
Warrington 15:43, Manchester Victoria 16.22 - 16:27 then Castleton East Junction
17:37.
Whitby Shuttle...
Due to the non availability of a steam locomotive for the Whitby - Grosmont -
Glaisdale shuttle on the 15th (Sunday) WCRC are providing a diesel replacement
which should be 37248. The shuttle leaves Whitby every two hours at 10:15,
12:15, 14:15, 16:15 and 18:15 whilst departures from Grosmont are timed at
09:25, 11:25, 13:25, 15:25 and 17:25.
10/10/06
37425 (WKCK) has been granted a minor reprieve in that its
assignment for N ONE at Margam has been put back by one day to the 15th.
47200 (now back to CRRH) at Gloucester has an assignment in place for movement
to Brush Loughborough for repairs.
66029 (WBEN) has, after a brief sojourn at Toton, been returned to France.
90019 (WNTR) has been released into traffic from Crewe EMD whilst 92028 at
Wembley has been returned to the WNWX storage pool.
IWCA 87s...
87002 came out on test again this morning heading up to Northampton and
back with 87006 and the Mk3 set. All appears to have been well with 87002 as it
was later turned out to work the late afternoon passenger turn out from London to
Birmingham and back with 87006, which failed to materialise for yesterday's passenger diagram due to receiving repairs
then being blocked in at Wembley by defective point work, in the consist for
insurance. Recently reinstated
87007 will need some attention before it is ready to be used.
DRS pools again...
20315, recently shipped off to Glasgow Works for attention, has been reallocated
to the XHMW works pool for the duration whilst the Class 47s being hired in from
Riviera, plus an extra or a replacement for 47815, have been transferred into
the DRS pool with 47805 47812 47843 47847 and 47853 being reallocated to XHNC.
09/10/06
43155 and 43165 (both IWRP) have been released from re-engineering at Brush being collected from Loughborough for transfer to Landore by 47714 which had brought 43021 and 43176 (both IWRP) in from Gloucester earlier in the day.
08/10/06
43021 and 43176 (both IWRP) spending the weekend at
Gloucester are candidates to go to Loughborough tomorrow to exchange places with
