Tugs...
60065 (WNTR) initially stopped at Warrington has gravitated to Thornaby whilst
60094 (WNTR) is now 'in the bin' at Immingham. This leaves just 60015 and 60060
(both WNTR) 'active but stored' still out and about but to be stopped in the new
year.
More amendments...
A couple more additions for the storage lists...
08887 (ATLO) out of use at Longsight and reportedly not to
be repaired.
08936 (CREL) dumped at Gloucester pending developments.

FGW Power Car notes...
Further to the recent listing of several EFPC allocated power cars as stored it
should have been pointed out that in the fullness of time most, if not all of
these power cars, will be entering into the MTU re-engineering program. Indeed
43078 and 43197, the pair which have been on hand as spares donors at
Loughborough, are reportedly now authorised to undergo their respective
conversions and are set to emerge from re-engineering sometime in 2007.
29/12/06
60013 at Immingham for a B exam and 60060 still in traffic
have been stored WNTR this afternoon swapping places with 60063, reinstated to
WCAM from store at Toton, and 60066, reinstated to WCAI from store at Thornaby.
60060 is assigned for N ONE at Thornaby by January 3rd. Interestingly, as with
some Class 60 changes a week or so ago, today's returnees have been allocated to
TO (Toton) instead of the more usual IM (Immingham).
60015 and 60094 (both WNTR) are still out and about in normal service a week
after being transferred to the WNTR storage pool and at least one of the two is
destined to run on into the new year with 60015 being assigned for N ONE at
Thornaby by January 4th. 60094 was booked to run to Immingham today from
Rotherham for storage.
60044 and 60084 (both WNTR) also transferred to WNTR a week ago have now been
stopped and stored, 60044 at Margam whilst 60084 is located at Thornaby.
87012 and 87019 (both SBXL) were despatched through the tunnel to Europe on the
27th.
92008 stopped at Crewe EMD has been stored WNTR swapping places with 92030
reinstated to WTAE from store at Crewe.

AMEC 57s...
57314 (ATTB) worked a rake of IGA bogie flat wagons north, as 6Z57, from Bescot
to Carlisle today. This is believed to be in connection with the forthcoming
hire of 57/3s by AMEC who now have the contract to move timber to Chirk. Driver
training in the North Wales area utilising 57308 had been underway just prior to
Christmas. The hiring of 57/3s, largely under utilised during the week, will
fill the gap until AMEC can deploy their own, yet to be sourced, traction
resources.

Year end amendments to the lists...
This year I'm taking nominations for the year end amendments to the storage

if there's something on the lists you feel ought not to be drop a line to the
usual address with your candidate/s and reason/s.

43069 43070 43086 43087 43159 43193 & 43196, all in various states of disrepair
at Plymouth Laira.

traffic but the others have been stopped for store. 60018 is at Doncaster Carr
but is assigned for movement to Toton where 60025 is now out of use. 60048 and
60079 are now stored at Immingham whilst 60065 has been stood down at Warrington
and awaits transfer to Thornaby. 60004 from Toton and 60007 from Thornaby have
been relocated to Immingham.

08762...
RT Rail have advised that the repair of 08762 (MOLO) damaged in a shunting
incident earlier this year is almost complete at Wabtec. 08762 has also
undergone an E exam whilst out of traffic and on release from Wabtec will be
returning to Northwich to complete its contractual obligations for 2007.
23/12/06
08454 (ATXX) has, at some point since its return to London
from attention at Longsight, been returned to active duties being noted shunting
66723 66724 66725 66726 and 66727 into position for storage over the festive
period at Wembley this morning.
08995 (WNTR) has been moved north again, by road, to Thornaby from Doncaster
Carr. Not previously noted is the livery variation on 08995, applied before it
left Margam for Doncaster, in that the EWS red is a darker shade and the gold band
has been replaced with a light grey similar to the grey applied to 08738 recently
repainted at Toton.
87012 and 87019 (both SBXL) on the first leg of their
journey to Europe were moved from Wembley to Dollands Moor overnight in the
consist of the 6B01 service behind 92002.
22/12/06
09007 (WNTS) recently deposited at Worksop replacing 08888
has now been pressed into service.
45112 (SDMS) has been relocated to Long Marston, it was dragged down from Derby
yesterday afternoon behind 47832, where it is to be utilised for testing
coaching stock heating systems as well as being prepared for its farewell to
mainline use tour, pending a decision on whether to fit OTMR, which is pencilled
in for January 27th 2007 and a spin out from York and various locations in the
East Midlands to Llandudno Junction, Bangor and Holyhead.
66724 (GBCM) headed the GBRf convoy this afternoon, conveying 66723 66725 66726
and 66727, from Newport to London.
87012 and 87019 (both SBXL) have been moved across to Wembley Yard to await
transit to Europe. Reportedly they had been scheduled to have been moved on to
Dollands Moor during the early hours but as far as can be ascertained the
planned move didn't go ahead and the pair remain at Wembley.
Tug news...
Of the seventeen stored a week ago three are still out and about with
60025 (WNTR) available at Toton, 60065 (WNTR) still working the Fiddlers Ferry
circuit and 60079 (WNTR) showing as still available at Immingham. The fleet has
again been reduced with another eight Class 60 being stored this afternoon, all
to WNTR. Into the bin this time around go 60004 at Toton and 60007 at Thornaby
whilst 60015 60018 60044 60048 60084 and 60094 are still in service. This
reduction, enabled by the transfer to the sectors of some Class 66s released
from RHTT work, brings the Class 60 active fleet total down to 47.
VTWC 87 finale...
87002 (IWCA) was turned out for today's 1G21 and 1B05 London to Birmingham and
back diagram which *should* be the final workings.
21/12/06
08597 (WNTR) has been transported up to Thornaby by road from Doncaster
Carr. It has been indicated that Thornaby are to start equipping Class 08s with
multi working equipment which may explain the recent influx. As for how many
Class 08s are required for use in Europe this is far from clear at the moment
although up to 40(!) has been mooted.
37029 sidelined at Carlisle Kingmoor has been stored XHSS.
43035 (EFPC) has been delivered to Brush Loughborough for re-engineering
exchanging places with 43021 (EFPC) which has been towed away to Landore for
re-commissioning, Cotswold Rail's 47828 being utilised for today's transfers.
47769 and 47815 (both RTLO) have been returned to Crewe from Maritime being
moved north via
the 4S59 working from Southampton.
47810 (SBXL) has been stopped again at Norwich Crown Point.
86259 (MBEL) at Tyseley being prepared for a return to the mainline is now
sporting a 1960s style electric blue colour scheme and has been named after the
DJ fella who owns it.
87002 (IWCA) and set was out twice today working both the 13:10 to Birmingham and
15:00 return to Euston workings as well as the usual 16:50 out and back diagram.
Tugs...
60014 60023 and 60049 (all WNTR) have been stopped for store at Thornaby but
60025 (WNTR) has been released into traffic again from Thornaby and has made its
way to South Wales where 60027 60039 and 60078 (all WNTR) are being put to store
at Margam.
60031 and 60093 (both WNTR) are now stopped and stored at Immingham but 60079
(WNTR) is back in 'normal' status and available for use.
60040 (WNTR) has been moved up to Thornaby from Doncaster Carr whilst 60065
(WNTR) is still in normal service working the Fiddlers Ferry coal circuit today
meanwhile the seventeen recently stored Class 60s along with 67008 and 67013
have now been reallocated from Immingham or Toton to WQ / EWS Headquarters.
20/12/06
08888 (WNTS) has, since being observed heading north on a
low loader yesterday, been deposited at Thornaby.
43067 (SBXL) was noted traversing the M5 near Taunton on a low loader yesterday
afternoon, the second of two power cars moved this week, 43080 (SBXL) being the
other, en route to DML Devonport from Long Marston.
86901 and 86902 (both QACL) have appeared at York for ECML ice breaker duties.
Tugs...
60023 and 60078 (both WNTR) have been returned to service after briefly being
stopped at Thornaby but 60025 (WNTR) appears to have been stood down now at
Thornaby. 60091 (WNTR) which saw action yesterday is stopped at Immingham. 60014
60027 60031 60039 60049 and 60093 (all WNTR) are still in active service.
Disposal...
The cutting of 31308 can be recorded as its superstructure above the frame has
been dismantled. It and the remains of 31306 await removal of their power units.
31308 was stored from the WMAN pool at Old Oak Common back in August 1999, RIP.
GBRf fleet expansion...
66723 to 66727 inclusive, the five new Class 66s for GBRf, have been unloaded at
Newport Docks today.
19/12/06
86205 and 86226 (both SAXL) were hauled, a little later than advertised, from Bescot Yard to Long Marston this morning by 66239.
Shunter notes...
09007 (WNTS) has been transported out from Doncaster Carr to Worksop from where
it has displaced 08888 (WNTS) which has been taken north by road. Presumably
Thornaby bound, 08888 was noted on the A19 this afternoon.
Although sighted on the M180 near Barnetby on the 5th en route to Immingham it
transpires that 08561 (WNXX) wasn't unloaded on arrival at Immingham but was
turned round and despatched back westwards to Doncaster Carr instead.
18/12/06
66038 (WBEN) has been released from Toton for France again
being noted on its way south through Milton Keynes late last night behind 66151.
87002 (IWCA) and set didn't stand by long as the ensemble was turned out to work
the usual 1G21 and 1B05 turns this afternoon.
WNTR Tugs...

As a consequence whilst 60031 is recorded as having being returned to use from Thornaby whilst 60040 at Doncaster, 60047 60051 and 60079 at Immingham, 60078 at Thornaby and 60092 at Toton join 60023 and 60058 as having being stopped for store. 60014 has ventured to South Wales, probably for store at Margam, whilst 60091 has arrived at Immingham. 60025 60027 60039 60049 60065 and 60093 continue to work normally.
17/12/06
08872 (WZTS) has been transported north from Temple Mills to Immingham by road. The removal of 08872 from East London along with the return to the Wembley area of 08786 (WSLN) completes the clearance of Temple Mills.
WNTR Tugs...
60023 and 60031 have been stopped for store at Thornaby. This morning the WNTR
60s displacement was...
In active traffic: 60025 60027 60049 60065 60091 60093
Bescot: 60014 (still yard shunter?)

Thornaby: 60023 60031 60078
Toton: 60092
Correction...
60100 was not stored with the others a couple of days ago but was reallocated
from WCAN to WCAK. So to recap it was seventeen Class 60s stored bringing the
active fleet down to 55 not eighteen and 54 as earlier reported.
Disposal...
At Thomson's, Stockton the demolition of the remains of 56061, stored from
Immingham's WGAI pool back in July 1999, has been completed in the last few
days. RIP.
16/12/06
43141 (EFPC) has re-entered traffic with FGW whilst 43185

either still active or in the process of being stood down over the weekend.
86205 and 86226 (both SAXL) currently at Bescot Yard are booked to be moved on
to Long Marston Tuesday 19th. Selected timings for their transfer; Bescot 06:33,

09:41, Evesham 10:19 and Long Marston 10:42.
15/12/06
Euroshunter...
08738 (WNXX) at Toton has been painted light grey and
is adorned with Euro Cargo Rail in maroon lettering. The EWS 'three
beasties' logo is on its cab sides.
Tugs...
60036, already in traffic, and 60056, from store at Toton, have been reinstated
to WCAN and WCBM respectively. WCBM is a new pool as previously only short range
60s had been allocated to the Energy sector and WCAM. 60056 had been out of
traffic since October 2005 meanwhile
60087 and 60089 (both WNTS), another two of the longer term absentees, have been
transferred from Immingham to Toton for attention.
The fleet has been decimated though with the storage of eighteen Class 60s;
60014 60023 60025 60027 60031 60039 60040 60047 60049 60051 60058 60065 60078
60079 60091 60092 60093 and 60100, all to WNTR and all still in active service
mid afternoon. This reduction leaves the fleet total at 54 and interestingly
whilst the reinstated pair remain allocated to WQ (EWS Headquarters) the stored
60s are still allocated to IM (Immingham).
Sheds...
With the scaling down of the sandite commitment EWS have swapped several Class
66s between the sectors. Energy gained 66005 66111 66140 66198 66226 and 66234,
Industrial get 66020 66023 66043 66051 66160 66166 66168 66201 66231 66245 and
66248 whilst Construction now have 66066 66090 66097 66159 66177 66188 66205
66221 and 66235 whilst 66026 transfers back to the WBAN general pool.
Skips...
67008 and 67013 have been stored, both WNTR, at Toton and Bristol Barton Hill
respectively. As with the 60s these two have not been reallocated to WQ.
FM Rail...
It has been indicated that FM Rail's operating licence has passed over to Victa
Railfreight. What implications this has with regards to the operating fleet
remains to be seen.
Cans on the move...
86205 and 86226 (both SAXL) left Doncaster for Bescot late afternoon behind
66156 on the second leg of their journey to Long Marston.
Power car notes...

Toton to be turned round to face the right way is on its way to Loughborough
during the afternoon to collect
43290. 43185 (EFPC), recently de-railed at Old Oak Common, is to be
removed by road, possibly to Loughborough for repair and re-engineering.
HNRC notes...
At Barrow Hill 08527, repainted grey and back in working order, is set to see
use this weekend hauling the Santa specials. 08492 has been admitted to the
workshops for repairs and 08825 currently located on the Battlefield Line is to
be moved to Barrow Hill shortly. HNRC have advised, although the location is
being kept under wraps for now, that they have a shunter hire contract coming up
in the new year. 20901 has had its cab refurbished and 37038 is repaired and
awaiting collection by DRS.
Registrations...
66723 66724 66725 66726 and 66727, the five Class 66s en route to the UK for
GBRf, have been registered on the system and allocated to pool GBCM. 87012 and
87019 de-registered last month have been re-registered to SBXL whilst 31306 and
31308 have now been de-registered.

receiving an A exam at Motherwell.
43065 and 43084 (both SBXL) were transferred by road from Long Marston to DML
Devonport, Plymouth where they are to be resurrected to operational status for
use with Grand Central. The other HST power cars from Long Marston for Great
Central are to follow in the next few days.
86205 and 86226 (both SAXL) have been moved from Immingham, initially to
Doncaster for forwarding to Bescot then Long Marston. Transfer west to Doncaster
this afternoon took place behind 60054.
13/12/06
08738 (WNXX) and 08939 (WRWR) appear to have been admitted
into
the paint facility at Toton already.
37410 (WKCN) surplus to requirements in South Wales has gravitated to Bescot en
route to join the rest of the EWS Class 37 fleet in Scotland.
43183 (EFPC) has been released from re-engineering and removed from Brush,
Loughborough this morning by 47714. Moved up from Laira yesterday 43023 (EFPC)
was delivered during the night.
60036 (WNTR) is again in normal traffic having being released into service from
Toton.
87002 (IWCA) managed two trips to Birmingham today handling both the 13:10 out
from Euston and corresponding 15:00 return before working the usual late
afternoon turn out of the capital.
12/12/06
43164 (EFPC) has entered traffic with FGW.
87002 (IWCA) has been repaired and returned to action with today's 1G21 and 1B05 workings.
Shunter notes...
08782 (WRWM) was removed by road from Castleton on the 10th, the run down of the
plant is now underway, to Warrington.
Multi working equipped duo 08738 (WNXX) and 08939
(WRWR) have been moved up to Toton by road from Margam being noted traversing
the M42 this morning. Both 08939 and 08738, the latter of which is already
partly rubbed down for repainting, have been deposited by the paint shop and it
is understood that something new, paint scheme wise, is on the cards for these
two...

Occasional problems with the use of Class 67s on the West Highland line has seen
the reintroduction of 37406 for sleeper services on occasion recently. High rate
wheelset wear and, more recently, alleged problems with the brake blocks on the
67s coupled to reasonably frequent trips away for tyre turning is undoubtedly
having an impact on availability. Having one of the RETB fleet stationed in the
South West for RHTT use won't help either. WABN fleet survey...

Thornaby by road.
60036 (WNTR) usually to be found languishing at Toton was pressed into traffic
on the 7th working the 6Z41 from Mountsorrel and 6Z45 return.
Rhymney finale...
37410 (WKCN) suitably adorned with a wreath and with 9521 6183 5853 5869 in tow,
did the honours with the final Rhymney loco hauled working this morning's
heading the 2F10 from Rhymney to Cardiff.
More Eurosheds and pools shuffled...
66028 and 66071 stopped at Toton along with 66073 up at Wigan for sandite, but
assigned to Toton, have been added to the WBEN Euroshed pool, these three
additions bringing the allocation up to 16. 66067 from Industrial and 66184 from
Energy have been reallocated to WBAN to part compensate for these reallocated to
WBEN.
The Lickey banking fleet is now the sole responsibility of the Industrial sector
with 66055 66056 66057 and 66059 being reallocated to WBLI from WBLM whilst to
balance the books 66072 66082 66083 and 66191 have been reallocated from WBAI to
WBAM. Pool WBLM is obsolete already.
FM Rail into administration...
News broke this afternoon that, after weeks of speculation about the future of
FM Rail, the company has been placed into 'voluntary administration'.
EFOO, EFPC and EFSH...
Three new pools have been created for the FGW traction fleet which is evidently
now operating under the EF banner.
EFOO: FGW Class 57 at Old Oak Common
EFPC: FGW Class 43 / HST Power Cars split between Plymouth Laira, Landore and St
Philips Marsh
EFSH: FGW Shunter Fleet split between Old Oak Common, St Philips Marsh, Landore
and Laira
Network Rail yellow HST power car 43196 which has been hauled to Laira since being noted in convoy from Loughborough on the 7th with 43025 has now been added to the FGW fleet reallocating to EFPC. These changes render the HJXX HJSL IWLA and IWRP pools obsolete.
08/12/06
37694 (WNTR) noted on a low loader at Temple Mills on the
5th was moved over to Old Oak Common as planned during the night.
43300 (IECP) has entered traffic with GNER.
86228 (SAXL) is on the move again by road being transported from Coalville to
Long Marston.
86235 (SDAC) from Immingham Railfreight Terminal was deposited at Derby RTC
yesterday afternoon after transfer over by road whilst 86205 and 86226 (both
SAXL) are understood to have been moved from IRFT to Immingham Reception by the
5th to await forwarding, probably to Long Marston, at a later date. These
developments leave just 47550 and 56022 (both SDXL) stored on site at the
Railfreight Terminal.
VTWC Job...
As mentioned earlier it is intended that the VTWC Class 87 and stock working is
set to continue next week but after that the loco and set will be held on
standby for use as required until further notice. The set didn't work the
diagram yesterday due to the overheads being down at Castlethorpe throwing the
southern section of the WCML into chaos last night.
Today 87002 is not available as of this morning, main compressor
defect, and 87006 is at Willesden for attention so (at the time of writing) if
the set is to come out at all today it's
looking like a pair of Class 57s are going to be turned to work the set in top
and tail mode.
More for Thomson's...?
There are indications that another batch of locomotives are to be despatched to
Thomson's by FM Rail possibly including the likes of 33046, recently offered for
sale, and 47710 stripped for overhaul some years ago but not proceeded with.
Toton headshunt...
Recently cleared of shunters the headshunt now contains 58005, against the
blocks, followed by 60003 and 60011.

from Neville Hill to Craigentinny yesterday afternoon.

Terminal to Long Marston.
47769...
47769 and 47815 (both RTLO) on hire to Freightliner, worked south last night
with the 4O08 service from Trafford Park to Southampton however they were
delayed en route near Winchester whilst the fire brigade attended to 47769
before continuing through to Maritime. Both 47769 and 47815 had been diagrammed
to return north today with the 4M58 service but 66573 was turned out for the
working instead.
Although the investigation into what caused the fire on 47769
will no doubt be ongoing early indications are that it was nothing more serious
than dragging brakes and the minor ignition of some underside grime above the
offending bogie.
Rhymney finale...
The final running day for the Class 37 Rhymney diagram has been decided upon and
it's earlier than had initially been anticipated. Monday morning, the 11th, and

The demolition of 56061 at Thomson's, Stockton is progressing, bodysides and

years languishing at Crewe EMD.
West Coast 87 job extended...
It has been indicated that the VTWC Class 87 locomotive and stock cover diagram
is to run for at least one week beyond this weekend's timetable change.
Shunter notes...
Firstly a correction to the Bescot report from the other day in that it was
08706 (WSWM) that had emerged from the shed for the first time in ages not 08709
(WSWM) as reported however since its arrival in the West Midlands 08842 (WSSC)
has been put to use as the engineers yard pilot. 09201 (WSNE) has been released
from repairs and was due to / has been removed from Thornaby today, presumably
back to Knottingley meanwhile 08077 (DFLS), Freightliner's reserve shunter at
Southampton, has been pressed into use to cover for 08585 (DFLS) currently
stopped at Maritime. Longsight have completed the repairs / exam on 08454 (ATXX)
and it has been despatched south by road this afternoon to Wembley where it will
exchange places with 08451 (ATLO) which is to be brought north to Longsight for
an exam.

02/12/06
08842 (WSSC) noted on the move south by road yesterday has
been unloaded at Bescot where an operational shunter is needed. 08709 (WSWM)
only recently, after several weeks indoors, emerged from the shed but appears to
still be non operational as when 09022 (WSWM) failed a couple of days ago 60014
was commandeered for shunting duties in Bescot Yard.
43026 and 43153 (both IWRP) have re-entered traffic following re-commissioning
at Landore.
56115 (WZGF) and 58010 (WZFF), noted in Wembley Yard this morning, are back from
France.
01/12/06
08701 (WSXX) is to be / has been deposited at Bridgend for
hire to Ford as their resident shunting locomotive is currently defective
meanwhile another shunter on the road today is 08842 (WSSC) from Carlisle noted
heading south on the M6 near Cannock this afternoon.
