Chopper delivered...
20903 (HNRS) brought south by road from Glasgow Works completed its transfer to
Long Marston late this afternoon.
87022...
With an exam due which has not been authorised 87022 (GBAC) is to be handed back
to Porterbrook by GBRf. Whether it will be replaced is looking very doubtful as
it and 87028 were facing retirement at the end of the year anyway when the non
fitment of OTMR deadline comes into force.
MTU...
43149 (EFPC) has been released from re-engineering at Brush Traction being
hauled westwards today by 47813. 43238 (IECP) was released from Loughborough on
the 29th swapping places with 43116 (IECP) which has been admitted for its
upgrade. 43072 was utilised as the 'escort' power car for the GNER swap. Not
previously noted was the admission for re-engineering on or around the 22nd of
43160 (EFPC) latterly in use with 43089 on the Hitachi test train.
LaFarge ballast...
To date two 1300 ton trainloads of ballast have been delivered to LaFarge at
Hope from Mountsorrel with 20901 and 20905 (both HNRL) being utilised on these
deliveries. There is to be a change to the delivery pattern with two loads per
week being run for a fortnight on Wednesday and Friday nights which is due to
commence in two weeks time. After this it is envisaged that no deliveries will
be required for about a month before deliveries resume.

Chopper on the road...
20903 (HNRS) has been collected from Glasgow Works and, Long Marston bound, is
on its way south by road.
Euroshed 245...
66245 (WBEN) left Toton yesterday afternoon behind 66145 to Bescot for onward
forwarding to France.
MTU...
43037 (EFPC) is the latest entry into Brush Traction for re-engineering being
taken to Loughborough today by 47813.
37351...
Although there had earlier been an indication that 37351 (WNSO), currently
awaiting removal from Crewe DMD, may be the subject of a preservation bid - the
Straspey Railway being mentioned in several circles - it would now appear that
the former 37002 isn't sold on and that currently a potentially one way trip to
Stockton is on the cards.

29/08/07 |
Eurosheds...
66072 (WBEN) has been released from modifications at Toton being noted yesterday
being hauled through Water Orton en route to Wembley thence to France. The EWS
European Class 66 pool has been increased again with 66179 and 66231 being
reallocated to WBEN.
Re-registrations...
A number of locomotives have been re-registered on the system, nearly all are
connected with Goodman's / Traditional Traction although 37423 undergoing
repairs at Loughborough is also now back on the system. Re-registered, all to HQ
and MBDL, are 08411 08460 08511 08683 08881 08896 08915 08927 20035 20063 20137
20139 20228 37423 and 73129. Interestingly, slipping into pedantic mode, 73129
now finds itself allocated to the private owner diesel locomotive pool,
technically feasible it being an electro-diesel, but in the past the MBEL pool
has been used for Class 73s.
FAMT...
37679, recently delivered into preservation at the Northampton & Lamport
Railway, now has its own pool code as FAMT, the former Trainload Freight
Aggregates Tinsley fleet pool code, has been resurrected for it and recoded to
Private Owner 37679...
Other pool notes...
Railcare at Springburn and Wolverton have new pools coded RCZH and RCZN
respectively replacing ARZH and ARZN meanwhile Traditional Traction have created
a pool coded TTLS which has had 08484 and 47484 reallocated to it. Alstom have
created a pool coded ATZZ (locomotives for disposal?) to which 08887 currently
dumped at Longsight has been reallocated to.

47375...
Or the new livery being applied to 47375 (CRRH) at Barrow Hill may be the new
colour scheme for 'Advenza Freight' as is now being implied...
5Z47...
47237and 47802 (both XHNC) ran from Heaton to Oxley as planned today with the
DRS Mk3 stock which had been used for the GC training runs over the past
fortnight.
MTU...
43127 (EFPC) has been released from re-engineering at Brush Traction being
collected from Loughborough by 47813 today whilst fresh from re-commissioning at
Landore 43091 (EFPC) has been noted in traffic this morning.
|
27/08/07 |
Another 47 for DRS...?
It has been noted that 47375 (CRRH) at Barrow Hill has been repainted into deep
blue with yellow ends to the same spec as the DRS colour scheme. This
development would indicate that the future for this machine may now be with DRS
however until some decals are applied and / or there is a pool transfer from the
Cotswold Rail CRRH pool the situation remains speculative.

24/08/07 |
The plot thickens part 1...
Although 73104 (MRLS) reached Trecwn the other day it didn't gain access to the
former MoD site and had to go with the low loader to Bridgend where a shunter
was to be collected. 73104 was subsequently deposited at the Ford plant at
Bridgend swapping places with the Class 08 (thought to be WSXX allocated 08701 /
Tyne 100) which was being removed elsewhere.
The plot thickens part 2...
Further to yesterday's note about 92038 being reallocated to the WZGF pool it
has been advised that this locomotive was removed from store at Crewe EMD
earlier in the month being despatched through the tunnel to France on or around
the 8th. It was sighted stabled near the depot at Cheriton on the 12th.
MTU...
43005 (EFPC) has been admitted into Brush Traction for re-engineering. Having
being initially hauled to Gloucester by 33202 it was later transferred to
Loughborough behind 47813. 47714 was also in the consist to Loughborough. Not
previously mentioned was the release of 43030 (EFPC) on the 21st which was
hauled to Landore by 47703.

23/08/07 |
DRS news...
57011 (XHHP) has made its mainline debut with DRS running north today from Crewe
to Carlisle with 37218 in tow whilst 47712 (XHHP) has been hauled from Carlisle
to Derby for attention, most likely including cosmetics, at RVEL, Derby RTC.
Haulage from Kingmoor was provided by 37515.
EWS tender list...
Another batch of locomotives, all Class 37s this time, have been put up for sale
by EWS. The list of locomotives being offered for sale comprises 37047 37057
37065 37109 37114 37174 37308 37375 37379 37403 37513 37519 37676 37677 37682
37694 37708 and 37887. Consequently all 18 have been reallocated to the WNZX
pool.
Seco 47s...
47749 47750 and 47791 have all been re-registered to the MBDL pool and are
showing as owned by Seco-Rail thus confirming their acquirement of 47750 at
Kingsbury.
WZGF 92...
SNCF owned 92038 currently in store at Crewe EMD has (most curiously) been
reallocated from WNWX to the WZGF (Class 56 European Hire Contract) pool.

been released back into traffic.

73s on the road, update...
For Ty Croes, Anglesey, North Wales read Trecwn, South Wales. Same country...
just the wrong end of it.
Anyway whilst 73139 (MRLS) has been deposited at Barrow Hill 73104 (MRLS) has been transported out to the former MoD base at Trecwn near Fishguard in South Wales. It has been indicated that more Mainline Rail / Nemesis Rail / ECT locomotives and stock will be heading this way in due course, some by road and some by rail as there is a mainline connection to the former MoD base at Trecwn.
HNRC 20s...
20901 and 20905 (both HNRL) were deployed on the LaFarge ballast working between
Hope and Mountsorrel overnight on the 20th / 21st (Monday / Tuesday) but not on
the second night (Tuesday / Wednesday 21st / 22nd) as enough stone, 1300 tons
has been mentioned, was brought onto the worksite in the first trainload. It
should be noted that the Monday / Tuesday nights diagram for this train to run
between Hope and Mountsorrel (details posted 16/08/07) is being run as required
and is totally dependent on the requirement for stone at the worksite at
LaFarge. The train working between Hope and Mountsorrel may therefore run one
night only, both nights or not at all each week. The empty wagons are booked to
return to Crewe from Hope on Wednesdays, a Class 66 is diagrammed for this, so
Freightliner, who incidentally are providing crew resources for this venture,
can deploy the wagons to other work.

21/08/07 |
73s on the road...
73104 and 73139 (both MRLS) have been extracted from the Mid Hants Railway by
road. 73104 which is understood to be Anglesey bound, an old MoD facility at Ty
Croes has been mentioned (more details anyone?), was noted in the Newbury area
around lunchtime en route whilst 73139 which is headed for Barrow Hill was
sighted on the M1 late afternoon part way through its journey.
Disposal...
At Thomson's the demolition of 37705 has been completed and attention has now
turned to 47302. 37705 was stored from the WKGN pool in December 1999, RIP.
47150...
There is talk of a gala appearance being the reason behind this development but
although initial indications were that 47150 (DHLT) was to be for spares at
Crewe when tripped across to Basford Hall from LNWR recently quite the opposite
has happened as besides having undergone some mechanical attention it is being
attended to cosmetically.
47501...
Stopped since last week 47501 (XHNC) has been despatched to Loughborough for
attention at Brush Traction being hauled south from Kingmoor by 66420 this
morning.
31306 / 31308...
The mention on the 17th that the remains of these two had been finished off at
Old Oak Common should, it transpires, have read that they are in the process of
being finished off.
WBEN expansion...
The Euroshed pool has been increased to 41 with the reallocation to WBEN of
66202 66203 and 66247.
|
20/08/07 |
47358...
Following an overnight stop off en route to Stockton 47358 (DHLT) was deposited
at Thomson's this morning.
73104 & 73139...
Moved by 33208 from Alton to Ropley last night it has been indicated that 73104
and 73139 (both MRLS) are being readied to leave the Mid Hants Railway.

by 47813 today for admission into the MTU re-engineering program at Brush
Traction.

heading north on the A1 late afternoon.
Kingsbury Gronk...
The shunter that has recently been deposited at Kingsbury has been identified as
08414, one of the two due to come over from Goodman's.
LaFarge...
20901 and 20905 (both HNRL) are now out stationed at LaFarge, Hope ready for the
commencement of the stone haulage contract, and will be based here for the
duration. Can everyone please note that visits to the LaFarge site by the
general public are not allowed, especially at the current time with all the
redevelopment work in progress. Those who travelled on the Barrow Hill to Hope
Class 20 shuttles last month will have seen, and appreciate, the extent of the
work being undertaken.
|
18/08/07 |
47791...
En route to Eastleigh Works 47791 is now located in Eastleigh Yard.
Shunter notes...
08495 (WSNE) latterly in use in the Carlisle area has been shipped down by road
to Plymouth displacing 09013 (WSGW) which has turned up at Toton on a low
loader. 08844 (WRWM) has been returned to Bescot from Daventry swapping places
with 08709 (WSWM)
1Z43...
The Grand Central / DRS trainer only ran through to York this morning before
returning north to Sunderland. 47237 and 47802, which have been through to
London three times this week, are still the train locomotives.

the Loughborough area on the M1 47358 (DHLT) is indeed on its way north to
Stockton and is likely to be spending the weekend at Langley Mill.
31306 & 31308...
Although their demise at Old Oak Common was recorded late December 2006 the
remains of 31306 and 31308, frames on bogies, have now been finished off.
Work in progress...
Admitted into the cutting area at Stockton yesterday the demolition of 37705 was
at an advanced stage by this afternoon.
Thornaby...
37055 (WNXX) and 37683 (WNSO) have been moved into the former Carriage & Wagon
workshop and under cover leaving just 60012 and 60050 (both WNTS) along with
977941 (former DMU vehicle 55012) outside.
Euroshed...
66190 (WBEN) left Toton this afternoon in the consist of a Bescot bound service
behind 66060.
Fastline Gronk...
08527 (HNRL) in hire to Fastline at Doncaster has been repainted into Fastline
colours but has yet to receive any branding.
MTU...
The transfer of 43040 (EFPC) from Loughborough to Landore yesterday was
completed with 47828 providing traction from Gloucester. 43020 and 43152 (both
EFPC), noted in the sidings at Gloucester recently, may well be the next
admissions to Brush Traction for re-engineering.
Registry...
Several Class 08s; 08511 08541 08695 08720 08807 08881 08883, two Class 37s;
37518 and 37803 along with four Class 47s; 47739 47742 47785 and 47791 have been
de-registered from the system, all had been allocated to the WNSO pool.
Privately owned 47732 47770 and 47773, all currently at Tyseley, have been
re-registered or reallocated to TM, the depot code for Tyseley Museum, and the
MBDL pool.

16/08/07 |
47358...
Reported to have left Southampton this afternoon by road a rather tidy 47358
(DHLT) is on its way from Maritime to Stockton.
Disposals...
A couple of very belated disposals to report, their fate has only recently been
confirmed. Former RMS spares machines 08113 and 08413 were disposed of to Morley
Waste Traders of Leeds and the cutting of these two was completed during April /
May 2007. 08113 was stored from Cardiff Canton back in March 1984 whilst 08413
was stored from Tinsley and the DASY pool in December 1996, RIP.
MTU...

haulage to Gloucester today for forwarding to Landore being facilitated by 47703, meanwhile 43029 (EFPC) has
been returned to service from re-commissioning at Landore being noted in traffic
yesterday.
Kingsbury 08...
Another Class 08 has turned up at Kingsbury. Although as yet unidentified there
is a strong possibility that it is either 08414 or 08946 from Goodman's, Sutton
Coldfield.
Stone 20s...
The Mountsorrel to Hope / LaFarge ballast workings utilising a pair of HNRC
Class 20s have been scheduled to commence running next week. Unfortunately

Kings Cross and back today. 47237 handled the morning southbound run whilst
47802 hauled the return.
47791...
Following on from yesterday's report and the arrival of 47791 (WNSO) at
Eastleigh which, it transpires, was still on its trailer overnight last night
being unloaded at Eastleigh Stone Terminal this morning.

Latterly at Goodman's, Sutton Coldfield 08881 (WNSO) has turned up at Wembley
for tyre turning.
Bulgarian 87s...
Further testing has been carried out in Bulgaria including the hauling of a 1000
ton train by 87019 from the sea port at Burgas to Pirdop in the mountains. There
are further tests to be carried out utilising 87012 and 87019.
|
14/08/07 |
Crewe Diesel...
47736 47746 and 47759 (all WNSO) can now be found outside at Crewe DMD, piped up ready for
transfer around to the EMD.
47791...
The transfer of 47791 (WNSO) to Eastleigh has taken place today being noted in
the Newbury area mid afternoon en route south from Sutton Coldfield. Having
being
deposited at Eastleigh Stone Terminal it has been tripped to Eastleigh Yard to
await forwarding into the nearby Works. The trailer that brought 47791 south is
to go to Southampton to collect one of the Stockton bound Class 47s from
Maritime. Accordingly 47309 and 47358 (both DHLT) have recently been moved back
on to Maritime depot from the Redbridge head shunt line ready for collection and
47358 is to be the first of these two to be taken north to Thomson's.

to Doncaster Carr. Another arrival in the past few days is
60052 (WCBN) which has taken over 'super-shunter' duties from former resident
60083. 60s are now cleared to run through on the Metrolink system as far as
Collyhurst Tunnels, not far from Manchester Victoria.
1Z43 / 1Z44...

|
13/08/07 |
Eastleigh bound 47s...
47791 (WNSO) has spent the weekend at Goodman's yard near Sutton Coldfield
awaiting forwarding to Eastleigh where in due course it is anticipated that it
will be joined by another Class 47 from Kingsbury. All indications point towards
47750 as having being secured from EMR by Seco-Rail.
Disposal...
At Kingsbury the demolition of the shell of 31421, stored from Crewe's LWNW pool
in March 1997, has been carried out , RIP.
1Z43...
Today's inaugural Grand Central / DRS training run between Sunderland and London
utilising 47501 and 47802 didn't go quite to plan with a delayed departure from
the North East, local 'scrap merchants' helping themselves to the copper from
the signalling cables being cited as the reason for the delay, it was some 50
minutes down on schedule at York on the morning southbound run. The late running
1Z43 didn't make it through to London as it was eventually terminated for a
reversal at Connington, south of Peterborough, to allow the return 1Z44 working
to pick up its booked path back north. The train encountered further problems at
Tallington, just to the north of Peterborough when a minor underframe fire on
47501 had to be attended to before continuing on to Sunderland slightly behind
schedule.
MTU...
43139 and 43182 (both EFPC) have been noted back in traffic following
re-commissioning at Landore, 43139 being recorded in service today, 43182
yesterday.

12/08/07 |
Crewe Diesel clearance...
Preparations have been underway to remove some of the locomotives currently
stored in and around Crewe DMD around to Crewe EMD for forwarding elsewhere by
road or further storage. Not all locomotives currently on the DMD are to go
though and it is understood that 37420 56077 and 58022 are to remain there,
possibly to move inside. Those likely to
be transferring round to the EMD are 37294 (WNXX) 37351 (WNSO) 37426 (WNXX)
37520 (WNSO) 47736 47746 47759 47783 and 47784 (all WNSO) of which 47736 47759
47783 and 47784 are up for re-sale by Hull's, 47746 is for preservation as
potentially is 37351 which is believed to have been sold on by Thomson's. 37520
is Stockton bound whilst 37294 and 37426 are still EWS property.
Blue slug...
33202 (CRRH) has arrived at the South Devon Railway where it is to undergo
cosmetic attention including a repaint into BR blue. As the Devon Diesel are to
assist the results should be good...
|
11/08/07 |
43091...
The transfer of 43091 (EFPC) from Loughborough to Landore via an overnight stop
over at Gloucester was completed this morning behind 47810.
Paint...
Two Class 47s being prepared for a return to the mainline have been noted
re-painted recently. 47787 (MBDL) at Carnforth has been out shopped in WCRC
Maroon colours vice EWS whilst one of the Seco 47s at Eastleigh Works, either
47727 or 47749, has been spied in Seco-Rail colours sporting yellow and orange
body-sides with various 'hard hat' logos applied. A long range photograph of
this development can be viewed at

Grand Central will begin operating daily crew training services from Sunderland to London King’s Cross on Monday (13 August) as it begins the final stages of preparation for the launch of its high speed train services next month. Two Class 47 locomotives will “top-and-tail” a rake of five Mark 3 carriages and make a daily run from Sunderland to King’s Cross and back, in order to complete the “route knowledge” training of Grand Central’s drivers and for the “live” training of conductors and senior conductors. The train, which has been hired from Direct Rail Services (DRS), will operate on Mondays to Saturdays for the next two weeks, prior to the delivery - following overhaul - of Grand Central’s fleet of fully-refurbished High Speed Trains (HSTs). Grand Central’s fleet of three HSTs - six power cars and 18 passenger carriages, is nearing completion of an extensive refurbishment program. Marcroft Engineering is responsible for the carriages, with the power cars being overhauled at Devonport DML. Sean English, Operations Director of Grand Central states: “After several months of training off the network on simulators and in a classroom environment, operation of these trains will give crews experience of a “live” railway situation. Although only able to operate at 95 mph, and not at full line speed, they will help complete “route knowledge” learning for drivers and teach on-train staff how to deal with the everyday issues they will face when we begin operating our scheduled services.”
Grand Central’s services will
open up new journey opportunities to the capital for passengers from Sunderland,
Hartlepool and Teesside and provide an opportunity for leisure travellers from
the South East to make direct journeys to the Tees Valley and Wearside. |

booked to receive B exams.

DFLH pool in December 2003, has been completed, RIP.

days ago, has now been stored WNTR swapping places with 60041 which has been
reinstated to the WCBN pool from store at Toton.
Last 47 off Saltley...
47791 (WNSO) has been removed from Saltley by road, extraction taking place
shortly before 11am. Although ultimately Eastleigh bound it appears that 47791
has been taken to the haulier's yard, probably Heanor, pending transfer south
later.
One should really keep the
database up to date...
...especially if about to start highlighting what hasn't been de-registered when
it was disposed of. Anyway, a couple of amendments to yesterday's 'ghosts in the
machine' list in that 37131 has been added as this was re-registered to the HNRS
pool prior to it being stripped and disposed of whilst 47628 is removed as it
has been deleted from the records being de-registered from SDXL in February
2007.

Having stopped over at Heanor, Langley Mill over the weekend 47302 (DHLT) was on
the move again last night, north to Stockton for delivery to TJ Thomson being
noted both on the M18 around 19:00 then later heading north up the A1 on a low

73134 (NRLS) has been deposited at the Weardale Railway following tyre turning
at Tyseley meanwhile transport for 47791 (WNSO) which appears to have been sold
on, had arrived at Saltley by early evening to facilitate its removal. It turns
out that 47791 is not to
go to Kingsbury as would be anticipated, but to Eastleigh, which indicates another
purchase by Seco-Rail.
EWS 90s...
90027 has been stored WNTR at Crewe EMD swapping places with 90039 which has
been reinstated to WEFE from store at Crewe EMD.

completed, only its bogies and cabs with nothing in between remain at Kingsbury,
RIP.

to Loughborough being provided by 47828 this morning. 43091 (EFPC) is ready for
collection.
Arriva power cars...
Subject to developments between now and when the Arriva XC franchise and the
redeployment of HST sets on regular cross country diagrams comes into being it
has been indicated that the ten power cars to be allocated to Arriva use are
provisionally to be six from Midland Mainline (IMLP allocated) along with the
the four remaining Porterbrook stored examples (SBXL allocated) 43101 and 43103
currently at Loughborough, 43121 and 43157 at Wabtec. Obviously the deployment
of 43103 and 43121 to the Arriva XC job implies that the plan to resurrect two
power cars for use by Hull Trains, 43103 and 43121 had been earmarked, is at
best on the back burner, possibly now abandoned altogether.

yesterday and spent the night on a low loader parked in the lay by at Junction
