Long Marston 87s...
87002 87022 and 87028 (all SBXL) have completed their transfer to Long Marston being hauled there from Worcester by 47805 today.

60002...
Recently transferred to WFMU 60002 out of use at Toton has now been stored WNTS.

More CR47s for TJT...?
Unconfirmed reports suggest that 47309 (CREL) on the Wensleydale Railway and 47810 (CRRH) at Norwich may now be candidates for a one way trip to Stockton. 47714 (CREL) currently sidelined at Brush has been mentioned again whilst there's just over two days left to get a bid in on eBay for 47703 (CREL). At the time of writing the most recent bid was a tad over 24k and the set reserve price had still to been matched.

Freightliner 47s and 57003...
It would appear that Freightliner are to press ahead with alterations to the four Class 47s stopped in the New Year due to not having OTMR to turn them into proper 'super shunters'. 47811 47816 47830 and 47841 (all DFLH) would be modified to restrict their top speed thus negating the need to be equipped with OTMR. Meanwhile 57003 (SBXL) recently deposited at Southampton Maritime is set to surrender parts to resurrect 57004 (DFTZ) to running order so it can be surveyed by Cotswold Rail.

Warcop 37s...
37250 (WNSO) completed its move to Warcop / Eden Valley Railway and preservation late yesterday afternoon following transfer over from Tyne Yard by road. It is anticipated that current Warcop resident 37505 will be brought south by road to Kingsbury sometime today. To clear up any possible confusion it should be pointed out at this point that, other than from a logistical arrangement for the road haulier, the arrival of 37250 at Warcop and the departure of 37505 is totally unconnected.

Worcester 87s...
87002 87022 and 87028 (all SBXL) en route to Long Marston are to lay over at Worcester Yard today completing their transfer from Wembley tomorrow.

Stockton 47s...
47033 and 47316 (both CREL) have been moved up from Gloucester to TJ Thomson's, Stockton today sandwiched between 'Advenza' liveried 47237 and 31454. The convoy was noted through Ashchurch shortly before 08:30 and various other locations en route.

57003...
Transferred south yesterday in the consist of the 66592 hauled 4O35 service 57003 (SBXL) has been transferred from Crewe Basford Hall to Southampton Maritime.

ACTS 58s...
Word from the continent is that the three Class 58s on hire with ACTS in Holland; 5811 (58039) 5812 (58044) and 5814 (58038) are to be dispensed with by the end of the year providing replacement traction is sourced in time.

37401...
At Wigan 37401 (WKBN) has been out shopped in EWS maroon without an EWS logo or large body side numbers but with small numbers on the cab sides.

Long Marston Convoy...
Departing almost two hours behind schedule 87002 87022 and 87028 (all SBXL) left Wembley for Long Marston behind 66726. Due to running late the convoy has been recessed in Worcester Yard to await forwarding to Long Marston tomorrow.

DRS Convoy...
66412 has hauled 57008 and 57010 (both XHHP) up from Oxley to Crewe Gresty Bridge.

37250...
Preservation bound 37250 (WNSO) has been loaded and removed from Tyne Yard by road. 37250 is going across to Warcop from where after delivery 37505 is to be collected for removal from Warcop south to Kingsbury.

Wigan Tractors...
37401 and 37405 (both WKBN) can currently be found on Wigan Springs Branch (the former CRDC) undergoing attention. Whilst 37401 is being repainted into EWS colours, the roof area is being done at the moment, 37405 is on site for repairs.

47s to Thomson's...
It has been indicated that TJ Thomson's (where the scrapping of 47197 is well underway) are to receive two Class 47s shortly for disposal which are believed to be 47033 and 47316 (both CREL) from Gloucester. 47316 has had its nameplates removed today. 47703 (CREL) earlier reported as a candidate for a trip to Stockton has been offered for sale on eBay so may survive sale for disposal.

WCRC Convoys...
WCRC have transferred their outstanding four Class 37 purchases from Healey Mills to Carnforth today. 37517 (WNSO) was top and tailed by 47245 and 57601 whilst 37668 37710 and 37712 (all WNSO) were escorted across the Pennines between 47804 and 47851.

Nemesis Convoy...
33021 (NRLS) has been moved south from Barrow Hill to Tyseley. 31454 was used after bringing 45112 (NRLO) up to Barrow Hill from Derby.

EWS Fleet Reduction...
92005 and 92027 have been stored WNTS at Crewe EMD.

DRS Fleet Reduction...
20311 has been stored XHSS at Crewe Gresty Bridge.

56106...
It transpires that 56106 (WZGF) was also brought up from Dollands Moor to Wembley on the 24th with 56078 and 58035.

MTU...
43180 (EFPC) has been released from re-engineering at brush Traction being hauled away to Landore by 47237 which ended up requiring assistance from Margam after failing en route. 57005 was despatched to assist.

Euroshed Increase...
The WBEN Euroshed pool has been increased again with the addition of 66214 to the WBEN pool. Currently totalling 52 locomotives in has been indicated that an increase to 60 is planned.

37897 (WNSO) has been moved up from the yard onto the depot joining 37174 for collection and removal to Kingsbury by road.

66224 (WBEN) has been released from modification at Crewe EMD being noted on its way from Crewe to Warrington yesterday for a tow south.

Disposal...
At Kingsbury the demolition of 37408 has been undertaken, noted in several pieces earlier today. The scrapping of 37408 paves the way for a further batch of deliveries to Kingsbury which in the coming week is anticipated to include 37174 and 37897 from Bescot along with 37505 from Warcop. 37408 was stored from Margam and WKCK in August 2005, RIP.

Wembley Transfer...
56094 and 56105 (both WZGF) have been dragged round to Old Oak Common from Wembley today, 67005 and 67006 being utilised again.

87s to Long Marston...
Next weeks planned transfer of 87002 87022 and 87028 (all SBXL) from Wembley to Long Marston has been rescheduled to run on the 29th.

VT to Brush...
One of the VT red power cars, either 43121 or 43157, has this afternoon been transported by road from Wabtec, Doncaster to Brush Traction at Loughborough.

92028...
After working south with last night's 6M66 working 92028 (WZGF) was still at Wembley this afternoon. It has been indicated that the SNCF machine is going on hire to ECR.

MTU...
43016 (EFPC) has been noted in traffic following re-commissioning at Landore.

Wembley Moves...
Transfers of the Class 56s from Wembley Yard round to Old Oak Common have begun with at least 56095 and 56104 (both WZGF) being moved this afternoon by the Royal duo 67005 and 67006. Meanwhile 56078 (WZGF) and 58035 (WZFF) have been moved up from Dollands Moor to Wembley.

SNCF 92s...
SNCF owned 92028 (now WZGF) could be found in the bay at Warrington this afternoon awaiting a spin south on tonight's 6M66, probably for forwarding across to France. It had been noted out and about this morning on test from Crewe with 92010 (WNWX) in tow.

37420...
Parked up in Rotherham last night on its low loader 37420 (WNSO) was unloaded at Hull's today.

Disposal & Kingsbury Notes...
At Kingsbury 37701, another recent arrival, has been disposed of and attention has turned towards the scrapping of 37408. Access to some of the longer term residents at Kingsbury is being blocked by 37198 and 37905 which are both sold on and awaiting removal thus the new arrivals being broken up as they arrive at the site. 37701 was stored from Toton and WKGN back in December 1999, RIP.

Crewe Extraction...
Although thought to be an impossible undertaking due to the narrow entrance to the access road near Crewe Station the road haulier managed to extract 37420 (WNSO) out from Crewe DMD by road. Last noted on the A38 near Derby 37420 is ultimately bound for Hull's at Rotherham.

Gloucester Notes...
Pending a one way trip to Stockton 47033 (CREL) has been brought up from the former Horton Road depot area to the CR sidings adjacent to Gloucester Station, reportedly for component recovery before being despatched north. 20901 and 20905 (both HNRL) latterly to be found stabled at Bristol Temple Meads have also appeared at Gloucester.

Several locomotive transfers are in the offing. All are subject to change and the usual disclaimers...

Two of the recently arrived Class 37s at Kingsbury have been disposed of already with the scrapping of 37719, stored from Toton and WKGN December 1999, and 37892, also stored from Toton and WKGN but in January 2000, having being carried out, RIP.

47200...
Thomson's, Stockton have taken delivery of 47200 (CREL) for disposal.

More 47s for TJT...?
It has been indicated that 47033 (CROL) from Gloucester, 47703 (CREL) currently on the Wensleydale Railway and 47714 (CREL) at Loughborough are to follow 47200 to Thomson's, Stockton.

Kingsbury Arrival...
37408 (WNSO) has been transported by road from Toton to Kingsbury.

Fosse Way on its Way...
47200 (CREL) has left Gloucester being hauled north initially to Derby this afternoon by 47375 where it looked set to rejoin Barrow Hill bound 45112 brought north from Gloucester to Derby on the 19th, 31454 had a few days earlier brought 45112 up from Meldon to Gloucester. In the end though 47375 and 47200 didn't stop to pick up 45112 instead carrying on towards Stockton as 0Z90 Derby to Stockton thus confirming that 47200 is Thomson's bound for disposal.

WCRC Convoys Cancelled...
Due to flooding between Preston and Lancaster the collection of the four WCRC from Healey Mills has been cancelled. 47245 47804 (see below) 47851 and 57601 (all MBDL) had been turned out for the collection of 37517 37668 37710 and 37712 (all WNSO) but didn't get far from Carnforth this morning before having to return to base.

OTMR Returnees...
47804 (MBDL) and 47818 (CRRH) have been resurrected to operational status as they now have operational OTMR equipment.

20/01/08

WCRC Convoys Part Two and Three...
37517 37668 37710 and 37712 (all WNSO) are due to be transferred from Healey Mills to Carnforth tomorrow by rail. It is envisaged that 37517 will by top and tailed on its own as one transfer whilst 37668 37710 and 37712 will be going in convoy, again top and tailed, as another transfer. The route taken should be as per the transfer on the 17th, via Copy Pit, Blackburn and Preston and Lancaster to Carnforth.

97301...
At Barrow Hill 37100 (QETS) has been noted numbered in the 97/3 series as 97301. Evidently with a proposed restricted sphere of operations on the cards Network Rail have deemed it suitable to number the 37s being prepared for the ERTMS project in the departmental Class 97 series. What is not entirely clear yet is whether the remaining three Class 37s involved are to be numbered from 37170 37178 and 37217 to 97302 97303 and 97304 sequentially or in shopping order which would see 37178 become 97302, 37217 become 97303 and 37170 become 97304.

Kingsbury Bound 37s...
As far as is known 37892 (WNSO) has been delivered to Kingsbury following movement north overnight from Old Oak Common whilst 37408 (WNSO) is on a trailer at Toton, loaded and ready for movement by road to Kingsbury.

20312 & 20315...
Stopped again 20312 and 20315 (both XHSS) have been returned to store at Crewe Gresty Bridge.

More Road Movements...
Kingsbury bound and the last of the three from Old Oak Common 37892 (WNSO) has been extracted for transfer north by road overnight. It may however find itself going to Heanor at Langley Mill if delivery to Kingsbury tomorrow is not feasible.
Mainline Rail's 73139 (MRLS) was taken by road yesterday from Barrow Hill north to the Weardale Railway.

MTU...
43134 (EFPC) is back in traffic following re-commissioning at Landore.

Cotswold Rail Notes...
57006 (CRRH) has made it way to Brush, Kilmarnock this afternoon for repainting into Advenza Freight livery and progress is being made with the 47/8s stopped at Norwich awaiting OTMR fitment / repair. There have been recent reports suggesting that 47200 (CREL), currently residing at Gloucester, is to be weighed in for scrap with EMR at Kingsbury and Thomson's at Stockton being variously indicated as its intended destination.
As far as can be ascertained, whilst it does appear that 47200 is being sold off, where it is to go to is not yet settled upon. In the fullness of time some of the other CR 47s could come up for disposal to facilitate the modernisation of the fleet, 57s being the tool of choice at the moment.
57004 (DFTZ) at Southampton Maritime awaiting exhaust repairs should, subject to successful testing once repaired, become the third Class 57 for Cotswold whilst 57001 (DFTZ) at Crewe has been earmarked to be the fourth.

WCRC Convoy...
57601 and 47245 in top and tail mode have escorted 37685 37706 and 37717 (all WNSO) from Healey Mills to Carnforth.

Disposal...
The scrapping of 37383 (RTLS) on site at Crewe LNWR is as good as complete as only its frame on bogies awaiting the removal of its power unit was in evidence this morning. 37383 was stored from Toton and the WKBN pool back in February 1999, RIP.

Cotswold 57s / MTU...
After running north to Craigentinny overnight 57005 (CRRH) brought 43290 south to Brush Traction, Loughborough for rectification work. 57006 (CRRH) which went north with 57005 last night is to go to Brush, Kilmarnock shortly for repainting into Advenza Freight colours, hopefully with vinyls applied. After depositing 43290 at Loughborough 57005 headed off to Landore with re-engineered 43016 (EFPC) in tow.

On the Road...
37701 (now WNSO) has been extracted from Old Oak Common for transfer north overnight by road to Kingsbury meanwhile the transfer of 56128 from Long Marston to Hanson Traction at the the Nene Valley Railway has taken place. 56128 was noted en route on a low loader today traversing the M40 and M42 motorways. 20314 (XHHP) was moved from Dereham to Brush Traction, Loughborough yesterday.

HNRC Notes...
37696 (WNSO) currently residing at Bristol Barton Hill has been secured from EMR and is to removed to Long Marston when 37704 (curiously still WNTS) and 37898 are brought up by rail from Margam. At Barrow Hill 37057 (HNRS) has, HNRC are pleased to advise, been restarted and run up following attention to numerous minor faults including main generator repairs. Copious quantities of yellow paint for 37057, perhaps, maybe...

Choppers Resurrected...
Recently stored 20312 and 20315 (both XHSS) have been returned to traffic working south from Crewe to Willesden last night with 6A73 before continuing on to Dungeness this morning.

Kingsbury Bound...
37719 (WNXX) extracted from Old Oak Common yesterday evening has been transported by road up to Kingsbury. Also ready to leave Old Oak Common for Kingsbury are 37701 and 37892 (both WNXX).

Almost...
The demolition of 37383 (RTLS) on site at Crewe LNWR is entering the final phase as only one cab, the frame and power unit remained when viewed this morning.

Back to Brush...
Tripped down from Carlisle to Crewe yesterday for transfer to Loughborough today 37423 (XHNC) has been sent back to Brush for attention.

Another Yellow 73...
73141 (QAED) undergoing overhaul at Eastleigh Works has lost its former Inter-City colour scheme having being painted in all over NR yellow.

Disposals...
At Hull's, Rotherham 47759 has been broken up which involved being cut in two, both cab ends were visible side by side this morning, whilst at Kingsbury the demolition of 37114 37375 and 37694 has been undertaken. So it's RIP for 37114 stored from Toton and the WKAD pool in December 2004, RIP for 37375 stored from Crewe and the WKAD pool in January 2004, RIP for 37694 stored from Toton and WKAD in June 2004 and RIP for 47759 stored from Crewe and the WHCD pool in January 2003.

Shunter Transfers...
Privately owned 08594, noted near Doncaster on a low loader on the 9th has been delivered to the industrial unit in Manchester where the Newton Heath Traction Group are based whilst 08599 (WNTR) was transported north from Immingham to TJ Thomson's at Stockton mid week.

Euroshed to go...
66247 (WBEN) noted heading north yesterday from Crewe towards Warrington was taken south today in the consist of 6A74 for forwarding to Europe.

DRS Notes...
The DRS locomotive fleet has again been reduced with the transfer to the XHSS storage pool of 20312 and 20315. Both are currently residing at Crewe Gresty Bridge. 37604 at Brush Traction has been reallocated to the XHHP holding pool whilst 37051 from Brush Traction has been transported away from Loughborough to Sims metals at Beeston for disposal.

SBXL Additions...
Barry resident 57002 along with 57003 at Crewe Basford Hall and 73201 recently deposited at Long Marston have been reallocated to the Porterbrook SBXL storage pool. It is anticipated that 57003 will be joining 57002 at Barry at some point as 57001 and 57004 (both still DFTZ) are potential candidates to, subject to all manner of developments, join 57005 and 57006 which have now transferred to Cotswold Rail, see below...

Cotswold Rail 57s...
57005 and 57006 (both now CRRH) have been bought by Cotswold Rail and ran from Crewe to Gloucester this afternoon.

56128 to go...
The transfer by road of 56128 from Long Marston to the Nene Valley Railway for Hanson Traction is anticipated to be taking place early next week.

HT86 is on...
Better late than never but 86101 (ACAC) and stock has entered service this evening with the Hull Trains cover diagram between London and Doncaster, Friday to Sunday, which releases a unit for much needed heavy maintenance. After a couple of training runs between Doncaster and Peterborough this afternoon 86101 returned to Class 1 action with the evening 20:22 Doncaster to Kings Cross service. The diagram is...

At Booth's, Rotherham the scrapping of 37379 stored from Motherwell and the WKAM pool in December 2001 is in its final stages, RIP.

Another DRS Fleet Reduction...
DRS have sidelined three more locomotives with the transfers to the XHHP or XHSS holding / storage pools of 20314 at Dereham where it has been stranded since RHTT work in the region saw the DRS contingent being serviced on the Mid Norfolk Railway, 57011 at Crewe Gresty Bridge and 66404 out of use at Carlisle Kingmoor following a recent altercation with a fallen tree.

Barry Bodysnatcher...
57002 (DFTZ) ran light engine from Crewe Basford Hall to the Barry Island Railway today and has entered the former Barry Depot building for safekeeping.

Pullman to Derby...
47709 (XHHP) has been transferred south from Kingmoor to RVE at Derby, 66429 providing haulage.

20088...
Now destined to be used as a source of spares HNRC have withdrawn 20088 from sale.

MTU...
Released from re-engineering at Brush Traction 47375 has taken 43134 and 43189 (both EFPC) from Loughborough to Landore.

On the Move...
37515 (XHSS) was brought down from Mossend to Carlisle Kingmoor during the night sandwiched between a pair of Class 66s. Freightliner have had 47830 (DHLT) brought down from Garston to Crewe, haulage to Basford Hall yesterday being provided by 66547, whilst privately owned 08594 has been noted on a low loader outside Doncaster. It had been residing on the sidings in Doncaster West Yard.

HT86...
86101 (ACAC) and set has been out on another training run between London and Doncaster today. Looking good for the 11th...

CR57s...
On the 11th 57005 and 57006 (both DFTZ) are scheduled to run from Crewe to Gloucester, 13:30 off Crewe via Birmingham NS, for transfer to use with Cotswold Rail. These are understood to be the first two of four for CR.

Welcome Back (Again)...
Recently reinstated 37401 (WKBN) has been released into traffic from Toton running light engine to Warrington.

MTU...
43102 and 43112 (both IECP) have been admitted to Brush Traction for re-engineering swapping places with 43206 (IECP) which has been released. 43061 was provided for today's transfers between Neville Hill and Loughborough.

86101 (ACAC) has been out on a training run from London to Doncaster and return today with Mk3 set and DVT. All being well the HT cover diagram could start running this weekend.

43160 (EFPC) has entered traffic following re-commissioning at Landore.

Cotswold Choppers...
HNRC duo 20901 and 20905 (both HNRL) have gone on hire to Cotswold Rail for the foreseeable future. Their first duty today was to take four coaches from Crewe to Long Marston before continuing on to Bristol.

DRS 37s...
37688 (XHSS) has been returned to use being noted in a convoy with  37059 37218 37605 and 37608 from Crewe to Derby yesterday. 37688 worked back to Crewe solo today before heading up to Carlisle with 20304 37606 and 66411 in tow. 37667 (XHSS) is showing as normal status at Kingmoor sp should be available for a return to use if required whilst 37515 (XHSS) remains at Mossend.

37379...
Cabs, frame and very little else remained at Booth's this morning.

Currently cluttering up Doncaster West Yard 47528 (CRUR) has been acquired by HNRC for breaking up, possibly on site at Wabtec.

NR Tractor #2...
At Barrow Hill the empty shell of 37178 (QAED) being overhauled for Network Rail by HNRC, the second of the four being prepared, is in undercoat ready for an application of NR yellow.

To France...
66203 and 66242 (both WBEN) noted on their way south yesterday for shipping out to France went through the tunnel early this afternoon.

Dumped at Blackford since being recovered from collision site by 66427, 37515 (XHSS) is scheduled to be taken to Mossend this evening, in top and tail mode this evening between 66427 and 66429 which has been despatched north for the recovery. 47715 Preserved...
Cotswold Rail have advised that 47715 (CREL) recently dragged up to the Wensleydale Railway from York after its sojourn at the NRM, has been sold privately for preservation at Wensleydale. Another potential candidate for preservation, as negotiations are ongoing, is 47714 (CREL) currently at Brush Traction, Loughborough. Making way for 57s perhaps...?

43190 (EFPC) was noted back in traffic on the 3rd following re-commissioning at Landore.

Eurosheds on the Move...
Fresh from modification at Crewe EMD 66203 and 66242 (both WBEN) were in transit with 66102 (WBBN) early this morning heading for Wembley behind 92017.

DRS released 37515 (XHSS) back into traffic during the night for snowplough use in Scotland. Shortly before 07:00 whilst en route from Kingmoor to Inverness 37515 was involved in a level crossing collision at Whitemoss, between Gleneagles and Perth, with an articulated lorry carrying potatoes. Further details regarding this incident can be seen on the BBC website news report.

More OTMR...
Several more locomotives have been identified as having being removed from mainline useable status due to not having OTMR equipment installed. As with the earlier batch most are already listed / regarded as stored however 37604 (XHNC at Brush Traction), 47811 and 47816 (both DFLH at Crewe Basford Hall), 47830 (DFLH at Garston) and 47841 (DFLH at Dagenham) were not and consequently now are listed as stored pending developments.

MTU...
43002 and 43003 (both EFPC), First Great Western's last two remaining Valenta engine equipped power cars, have been hauled up to Loughborough for MTU conversion, 47237 being utilised to take the pair north today from Landore. 43002 was the last in service being stood down from traffic yesterday.

57003 to Crewe...
Released from maintenance at Southampton Maritime Crewe bound 57003 (DFTZ) was in the consist of the afternoon Southampton to Coatbridge working to get it up to Basford Hall.

Reports indicate that the scrapping of 37379 at Booth's, Rotherham has commenced.

Freightliner 47s / 57s...
Since the last report regarding the situation with Freightliner's Class 47s and Class 57s not much has changed. 47811 and 47816 (both DFLH) are still at Crewe assigned N ONE there 31/12, 47830 (DFLH) is still at Garston (no assignment) whilst 47841 (DFLH) is at Dagenham assigned N ONE at Crewe 31/12. 57001 (DFTZ), under repair and getting a new engine by all accounts, has been joined at LNWR by 57005 and 57006 (both DFTZ). 57002 (DFTZ) remains dumped on Basford Hall whilst 57003 and 57004 (both DFTZ) have been receiving remedial attention at Southampton Maritime.

De-registrations and Ghosts in the Machine...
DRS have de-registered Loughborough incumbents 37023 37029 and 37051 from the XHSS pool thus calling it a day with these three and this is as good a time as any to have a look at the 'ghosts in the machine', those locomotives which although scrapped are still lingering on in the system at the end of 2007.

Tug 58...
60058 (now WFMU) has been transferred to Toton for assessment / storage. It left South Wales on the 31st in the consist of 6E20 behind 60042.

Today's Transfers...
Both today's transfers / movements to store took place as planned although one had to be re-routed. 73201 (HYWD) was hauled to Long Marston this morning by 66726 while 87022 (now SBXL), both it and 87028 have been reallocated to the SBXL storage pool, was hauled down to Wembley by 37038. Due to the ongoing and over running line closure in the Rugby area the movement of 87022 south from Oxley was via Oxford and Reading to get it to London.

OTMR Fleet reductions...
Quite a number of locomotives have been removed from being able to operate due to not having been equipped with OTMR equipment by the deadline which has now passed. Many were already in storage, some recently added, some not so recently, but a few were still in service. The upshot of this is that several DRS locomotives; 37087 47501 47790 47802 and 47832 have today been reallocated to the XHHP storage / holding pool, all these having being stopped at Carlisle Kingmoor. They are joined in the XHHP pool by 37194 37261 and 37510 which have been reallocated from XHSS to XHHP. WCRC loose 33029 33207 47787 and 47804 (all MBDL at Carnforth) whilst Cotswold Rail are now unable to use 47810 47813 and 47818 (all CRRH at Norwich Crown Point). Many of these will no doubt be returning to their respective fleets in due course after being fitted with OTMR, some however, may not...
