Stopped mid month at Acton and placed on decision but assigned to move to Toton 08757 (WSSK) was delivered yesterday following transfer north by road.

Eurovans, the next batch...
87010 87022 and 87028 (all SBXL) are ready to go and removal from Long Marston, presumably to Crewe for electrical testing before heading off abroad, is scheduled for 14:00 this coming Tuesday, September 2nd with a Colas Class 47 being utilised for the transfer. Following these the next three Class 87s being prepared for Bulgaria are 87003 87006 and 87034.

Noted on the M5 on a low loader ex Bodmin yesterday the shell of 08731 has been returned to Merehead.

Exhibit C...
58001 (WNXX) has been hauled from Barrow Hill to Knottingley for the do. It was supposed to have made the trip with 56001 etc. on the 26th but went today behind 66011.

In tow behind 47375 with a rake of Blue Pullman coaches 47810 (CRRH) has been taken north from East Ham to Barrow Hill today.

Grid 3...
56003 is back on the system having being re-registered and allocated to MBDL. Renumbering to 56312 will no doubt follow shortly.

MTU...
43119 (IECP) was dropped off at Loughborough yesterday for re-engineering at Brush Traction. 43104, the escort power car, returned north with a barrier coach.

Big livery on a little loco. 20312 (XHNC) has been out shopped at Crewe with a variation of the DRS 'compass' livery applied.

08731...
The stripped out shell of 08731 has been removed from Bodmin last being noted heading north on the M5.

Springs Branch...
08662 (WSSN) has been delivered to Wigan Springs Branch (the CRDC) from the Carlisle area. It joins 08897 (WSSN) still on site undergoing repairs and long tern resident shunter 08877 (WSXX) whilst it has been indicated that 08921 (WSSN) could be heading up to Wigan from the south at some point.

Swift Rail have advised that 86233 (SRLO) currently residing at Crewe EMD has now been sold to an undisclosed private buyer.

86501...
Collected from Bletchley yesterday 86501 (DFGC) has, via an overnight trip to Allely's, been taken north to Crewe where it has been deposited at the Heritage Centre. It was noted traversing the M1 near Loughborough this morning.

Exhibit D...
Hanson Traction's 56312 (the former 56003 yet to be re-registered as 56312) is to be hauled north from the Nene Valley Railway next week to Knottingley where it is to feature as an exhibit at the EWS do being staged there. Exhibit E 66050 perhaps...?

Released from repairs at Brush Traction 43067 (GCHP) has been collected today and taken north from Loughborough to Heaton by 47828.

Following attention from the 'engineers' at Leeming Bar HNRC's 47703 (CRRH) is now operational and should be a feature in the Wensleydale Railway's diesel gala next month.

Transfer from Bletchley to Crewe for assessment is to be undertaken by road.

To be on hand at a *private* EWS function at Knottingley 37411 (WNTS) has been moved up from Toton.

Also going to the 'do' at Knottingley is 56006 (WNXX) which has been transferred from Barrow Hill. D1023, which is being returned to the NRM at York, was also in the consist from Barrow Hill behind 60074 mid this afternoon.

The cutting of 37222 has been undertaken at Thomson's, Stockton in the last week. 37222 was stored from Toton and ENTN back in October 1997, Rip.

LaFarge...
To celebrate the opening of the extensive redevelopment of the freight handling facilities LaFarge at Hope are opening their doors to the public over the weekend of September 6th & 7th...

"LaFarge Open Weekend - 6th and 7th September 2008

Lafarge Cement UK Hope Works, Derbyshire are holding a FREE 2 day open weekend which is to celebrate the opening of the new multi million pound sidings and loading facilities. The event will attract a number of visiting diesel and steam locomotives which will be used to trip work passengers up and down the 2 mile branch line.

All visitors are welcome and there will be a free shuttle bus service to and from Hope Railway Station. There is also a Quarry tour included in the Works tour. Due to limited parking it is recommended that were possible use Public Transport.

Opening Times are 10am till 4pm."

On the move again by road today 08799 (WSSN) has been transported to the West Country where it was deposited at Par then tripped to St Blazey.

Tripped from Norwich to East Ham with 47375 on the 22nd 47810 (CRRH) and, pending a test run, is almost ready for a return to active service although at some point it is to receive attention to its traction motors.

66303...
Another shed for Fastline has appeared with the unloading at Newport of 66303 (MBDL). 57010 is on hand to take it north tomorrow.

On the road from the Doncaster area 08799 (WSSN) has been noted laying over at Goodman's yard near Sutton Coldfield.

86501...
Following recovery after yesterday's fire 86501 (DFGC) has been noted parked in the engineer's sidings near Bletchley Depot awaiting developments.

The 'unique' 86501 (DFGC) is in a spot of bother having caught fire on the WCML near Bletchley whilst working today's 4L97 Trafford Park to Ipswich working.

Eastleigh arrivals...
60061 (WNTS), taken south from Toton on the 20th, has this morning been deposited at Eastleigh for an exam whilst 37077 and 37377 (both WNXX) have been dragged over from Bristol Barton Hill, 66054 providing traction this afternoon.

Disposals...
At Booth's, Rotherham the scrapping of both 08493 and 08529 is at an advanced stage as only the frames and wheelsets remain to be disposed of. 08493 was stored from Cardiff Canton and LNWK back in July 1999 whilst 08529 was stored from Immingham and WSYH in December 1999, RIP.

Tugs...
Another swap round from / to the WFMU pool with three reinstatements and three from the operational fleet to store. Back from store at Toton, all reinstated to WFMU from WNTS are 60028 60073 and 60087, the latter being of note having been in store since December 2005, whilst stored, all at Toton and all from WFMU, are 60022 to WNTS, 60075 to WNTR and 60079 to WNTS. Also reallocated to WNTR are 60092 and 60095, both from WNTS.

47145 & 47150...
HNRC have withdrawn 47145 from sale with the advice that it is now intended to return it and 47150, a recent acquisition from Freightliner, to mainline standards with spot hire in mind.

For repainting at WCRC 37510 (XHHP) has been brought down from Carlisle Kingmoor to Carnforth.

Europhoenix Cans...
The HSBC owned Class 86s currently in store have been acquired by Europhoenix Limited, an independent company set up specifically to promote the overhaul and reuse of redundant UK electric locomotives, in a fleet purchase deal. They have issued a press release (see below) and have launched a website where further information and contact details can be found.

"Europhoenix Limited is in the process of completing a deal to purchase the HSBC Class 86/2 fleet. A total of 23 locomotives are to be included in the deal which will see several locomotives overhauled for use in Europe and the UK.

The fleet has been stored since withdrawal from frontline service in the UK three years ago, but following the sale for export of the similar Class 87 locomotives to Bulgaria for further use, considerable interest from Eastern and Western Europe has been shown towards the Europhoenix concept. The first two Class 86s are expected to be ready by January 2009 for a customer in Eastern Europe.

Locomotives will be overhauled in the UK to customer's requirements prior to export or home use. Options include the fitting of dual pantographs, and other modifications to suit local regulations."

The 23 Class 86s acquired by Europhoenix are the 22 in store at Long Marston along with 86212 currently languishing at East Ham; 86205 86212 86215 86217 86218 86223 86226 86228 86229 86230 86231 86232 86234 86235 86242 86245 86246 86247 86248 86250 86251 86258 and 86260.

Tug 59...
60059 (WCBK), the only member of the Class to never have undergone a stint in store, has suffered what appears to be a minor fire near Altrincham whilst heading today's 6F05 from Tunstead.

Ex BRE 37s...
37403 (WNSO, Margam) 37409 (Bo' Ness) and 37414 (Weardale Railway) have been put up for sale by competitive tender Walker Singleton (asset disposals menu on web site for further details). No mention is made with regards to 37702 and 37888 in Spain.

43277 & 43311...
43077 and 43111 (both IECP) currently at Loughborough for re-engineering by Brush Traction for NX have now been officially renumbered to 43277 and 43311 respectively.

9016...
Further to the previous notes about 55016 and its next running days at Peak Rail before leaving the site, it has been advised that it will not be featuring in the gala weekend of September 21st and 22nd but will be running over the following weekend, September 27th and 28th, instead. These running dates for 55016 should be regarded as its farewell, a suitable send off is to be arranged for it, HNRC advise, as, subject to completion of deals, its bogies and both power units are now technically sold on for re-use.

08731 & 08826...
Latterly at Merehead and a source of spares 08731 has been moved to the Bodmin & Wenford for further component recovery. It and 08826 at Merehead, they had been listed in industrial status, have been re-listed on the storage lists.

60064 & 60098...
Located in the compound at Toton since arrival by road from Immingham 60064 and 60098 (both WNTS) have recently been taken onto the shed. Spares or repairs for one or either of these two will become clearer in time but there is continued speculation that 'big money' may be spent on the Class 60s, 43 of which are currently in store.

31468 (MRLO) has been hauled from Barrow Hill to Derby RTC, 31454 providing traction yesterday. It is to become a source of spares at RVE.

Out of use at Acton 08757 (WSSK) has been placed on decision and is booked for transfer, no doubt by road, to Toton.

37077, 37377...
Bristol Barton Hill residents 37077 and 37377 (both WNXX) have been pre assigned for movement to Eastleigh and are due there by the end of the month.

86233...
Swift Rail have advised that they are making 86233 (SRLO) available for sale. Full details are listed on the 'For Sale' page.

20905...
After returning to the North East with 43068 the HNRC Chopper, currently on hire to Advenza, paid a visit to the Wensleydale Railway to collect 5700 and 5710, two Mk2d coaches for delivery to Heaton. 03144 was utilised to shunt the coaches out from Leeming Bar to Castle Hills from where they were handed over to 20905.

A little later than anticipated, possibly due to last week's fire at Thomson's, 31188 has been transported the short distance from Leeming Bar to Stockton today.

Disposal...

Being prepared for movement from Toton 37411 (WNTS) has been assigned for transfer to Knottingley for a function.

MTU...
Two in, two out. 43007 (EHPC) and 43057 (IECP) ran to Loughborough today for re-engineering swapping places with 43285 (EHPC) and 43305 (IECP) released following conversion at Brush Traction.

Disposals...
The respective demolitions of 37079 and 37894 at Kingsbury have been completed. 37079 was stored from Toton and ENTN back in November 1998 whilst 37894 was stored on return from France and WKMF in October 2000, RIP.

More 37s for Eastleigh...?
It has been indicated that four more Class 37s are heading for Eastleigh, two for spares, two for possible repairs. Recent activity at Bristol and Toton *may* infer that the four are to be 37077 and 37377 (both WNXX) from Barton Hill along with recently stored 37405 and 37411 (both WNTS) from Toton. EWS look to have an increased requirement for the type on the horizon...

Disposal...
At Kingsbury the demolition of former Bury resident 31467 has been undertaken and a start has been made on the scrapping of 37894. 31467 was stored from Bescot in March 1998. RIP.

Disposals...
Scrapping has resumed at Kingsbury with the demolition of 31113 and 47737 being undertaken. Only the frame and power unit of 47737 remained yesterday whilst the complete disposal of 31113 has taken place today. 31467 appears to be next in line for the chop. 31113 was stored from the Bescot WMAN pool back in February 1999 whilst 47737 was stored from the WHCD pool in February 2004, RIP.

EWS notes...
08888 (WSSN) has been stopped N ONE at Millerhill but the assignments for N ONE and store that were in place for 60075 and 60079 have been rescinded and B exams authorised.

More DRS compass colours...
Besides 47832 (XHNC) appearing a few days ago in standard DRS 'Compass' livery ex Stobart 47709 (XHHP), latterly Pullman, has been out shopped at Derby in the full DRS 'Compass' scheme.

Being prepared to perform at the Barrow Hill Gala later this month 47791 (MBDL) has been returned to operational condition being run up and on test.

The EWS Fleet Management Unit have some new Class 60s to play with following a swap, five each way, between WNTS and WFMU of ten Class 60s. Into store, all WNTS at Toton, go 60023 60034 60053 60089 and 60097 swapping places with 60002 60045 60048 and 60099 reinstated at Toton to WFMU from WNTS along with 60060 reinstated from Crewe EMD, also to WFMU from WNTS.

Taken south behind 66166 from Warrington to Crewe yesterday 56007 (WZGF) has completed its transfer from Old Oak Common to Crewe EMD.

DRS 57s...
From store at Kingmoor and Crewe respectively 57007 and 57008 have been reinstated to the XHNC pool from XHHP.

HNRC are pleased to announce the procurement from Freightliner of 47150 47289 (both DHLT) and 47841 (DFLH) which were offered for sale several weeks ago. 47150 and 47289 are currently residing in Crewe Basford Hall yard while 47841 is still at Dagenham.

To undergo a power unit swap at Craigentinny 43068 (GCHP) has been despatched north from Heaton behind 20905 which has been provided for this transfer.

En route to Crewe EMD 56007 (WZGF) is on its way. Initially tripped across from Old Oak Common to Wembley Yard 56007 was later hauled north in the consist of the 6X77 Mossend service behind 92036 as far as Warrington from where it will be tripped to Crewe.

Released from overhaul at Eastleigh Works 73141 (QAED) has left Eastleigh behind GBRf provided 66707 and 66731 to Tonbridge where it has entered traffic with 73212 and 73213.

Assigned for transfer to Crewe EMD 92037 has been stored WNTS at Dollands Moor.

Recovered from Southampton Maritime on the 1st 08077 (DFLS) has been transported north by road to LH Group Services at Barton under Needwood for repair assessment. The movement of 08077 was part of a three way switch involving 08531 from Barton to Tilbury, 08585 from Tilbury to Southampton and 08077 from Southampton to Barton.

60075 and 60079 (both WCAK) have been pre assigned for N ONE and storage at Toton. 60075 is due out of traffic by the 12th while 60079 is to be stood down by the 6th.

Further to the earlier report about 56007 (WZGF) being headed to Eastleigh vice Crewe it's now as you were as 56007 has been assigned for transfer from Old Oak Common to Crewe EMD for GSM-R fitment.

47832 (XHNC) has been stopped at Kingmoor for removal of its now obsolete Stobart colour scheme.
