30/01/09

Tugs...
Still seventeen but 60040, reinstated from Doncaster Carr to WCAM and 60048, one of the active but stored ones reinstated to WCAI are back. These reinstatements are at the expense of 60009 which has been stored WNTS, initially at Immingham but later moved to Bescot with an assignment to go to Toton in place, and 60094 which is stored WNTS at Warrington assigned to go to Crewe DMD. 60028 at Crewe EMD has been reallocated from WNTS to WNTR and 60100 (WNTS) has been moved down from Peak Forest to Toton.

FLOYD Can...
Or to be more precise the first of two Class 86s being prepared by Europhoenix for FLOYD ZRT, Hungary. At Long Marston Hungary bound 86248 has been out shopped in black and grey with a pink band and FLOYD logos. It is now numbered 0450 001-7 whilst 86250, to be the second Class 86 for Hungary will become 0450 002-(whatever the check digit will be?).

Europhoenix demo locomotive...
86247, the Europhoenix demo locomotive, has been out shopped at Long Marston in a grey and blue colour scheme with large 'phoenix' logos applied, quite similar to the mock up pictures circulated some weeks ago.

37670...
Perhaps ominously, having being showing as under repairs for some weeks now, 37670 (WFMU) at Knottingley has been placed 'on decision'.

Gronks on the road...
Two Stockton bound shunters have been noted on the move by road today with 08489 (WNSO) being observed on the move south from Millerhill and several sightings of 08587 (WNSO) on the M5 being brought up from Margam. It is possible that 08489 has completed its move to Stockton whilst it is likely that 08587 has stopped off at Wishaw en route.

29/01/09

Tugs...
Several stored and stored but still in use Class 60s are to be despatched to several locations across the UK for safekeeping. Besides reported activity at Ferrybridge, is space inside being made at this location?, the nine Class 60s stored but still seeing use have, for example, variously been assigned to be stopped over the coming days at Bescot, St Blazey and Didcot.

Immingham clearance...
56043 (WNSO) has been transported from Immingham to Booths, Rotherham being noted en route on a low loader this afternoon. The transfer of 56043 leaves just 08509 56025 and 56089 awaiting movement from Immingham to Rotherham. 56086 which has been resold, eventual destination unknown, 56027 and 56114 for Hanson Traction along with Barrow Hill bound 56101, which is to be moved out by rail once passed fit to go by rail, are still on site awaiting collection.

08900 & 08715...
Following a stop over at Wishaw 08900 (WNSO) has completed its transfer to TJ Thomson at Stockton. 08715 (WNSO) is still awaiting collection from Carlisle.

17 to go...?
Maybe. DBS have carried out a further reduction of the Class 60 fleet with another twenty examples being removed from the active fleet, to WNTR or WNTS, although not all twenty have been stopped yet, nine are still in service. Notably this round of storages includes 60040, one of the 'special' pair and 60059, this is the first time this one has been stored, being the only member of the fleet that hadn't been stored at any point. All the Class 60s have now been in store at least once. The casualties this time round are...

60012 stored WNTS at Toton
60013 stored WNTS at Toton
60018 stored WNTS at Toton
60019 stored WNTS at Toton
60020 stored WNTS but still in traffic
60021 stored WNTS at Margam
60024 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60026 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60027 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60040 stored WNTR at Doncaster Carr
60048 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60059 stored WNTS at Toton
60061 stored WNTS at Toton
60062 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60063 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60066 stored WNTS at Margam
60068 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60091 stored WNTR but still in traffic
60099 stored WNTS at Toton
60100 stored WNTS at Peak Forest

This reduction to the fleet leaves just seventeen Class 60s allocated to the active pools; 60004 60009 60010 60022 60031 60044 60049 60054 60060 60065 60072 60074 60084 60085 60087 60094 and 60096 along with 60020 60024 60026 60027 60048 60062 60063 60068 and 60091 which are 'stored but still active'.

Rotherham Grids...
Two more Class 56s have been transported across from Immingham to Booths, Rotherham. After offloading 56084 (WNSO) first thing this morning the transport returned to Immingham to collect 56082 (WNSO) which was delivered mid afternoon.

37029...

Two tanker wagons (note for the national media, wagons not carriages) caught fire. A collection of the aftermath can be viewed on this Fotopic site.

25/01/09

Grids...
A news item on the Preserved Diesels website indicates that 56086 (WNSO) currently awaiting collection from Immingham, has been secured for preservation via a resale by Booths meanwhile 56101 (WNSO), also awaiting removal from Immingham, and now with its own website, has a home lined up with the news that it is destined to go to Barrow Hill.

23/01/09

Froth...!
To coin a phrase usually seen on forums, especially where paint schemes and livery changes are involved, there has been an outbreak of 'paint related froth' over which locomotive is to shortly be unveiled in DB Schenker livery. First to crop up on the radar was 59201, latterly on a lengthy exam at Merehead, and which was to be despatched to York via an overnight move for unveiling at the NRM. Next came 59206, currently at Toton, which has a path booked from there to York on the 22nd, thus this one is the current favourite, but today 'rumour control' has gone into overdrive with talk of 59202 60039, graffiti victim 60062 and even 37670 being candidates...

19/01/09

Immingham...
56052 has been loaded onto a trailer ready for removal from Immingham, but is stuck, whilst the rest of the locomotives awaiting removal to Booths have been lined up near the former Carriage & Wagon shed to await collection. The order in which they have been lined up will probably be the order in which that are to be transported over to Rotherham; 56064 56076 56084 56082 56086 08509 56043 56025 then 56089.

Meldon convoy...
Although identified as the locomotive to be on the move from Meldon, due to brake problems 73103 (NRLS) had to be left behind today when 47375 visited to collect it, 31415 and 47716 (both NRLS) and take them to Gloucester. 47716, at least, is destined to continue on to Barrow Hill at some point.

Immingham Grids...

None of the Class 56s heading for Booths have yet been transported to Rotherham. It was noted on the M1 in the Leicester area yesterday then at Rainham Services overnight. 08691 (DFLS) was noted traversing the M3, northbound on the 5th en route to Felixstowe whilst 08873 (MOLO) was observed on the M6 near Middlewich heading north yesterday. One movement not picked up on at all last month was the removal by road from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway of 20197 (HNRS) to Long Marston on the 10th.
